If you’re planning a trip to Cozumel and want to make the most of a half-day adventure, this private 5-hour sightseeing tour might just fit the bill.

While I haven’t personally done this exact tour, from the reviews and details available, it seems to be a well-rounded way to see some of the island’s highlights without feeling rushed. It’s especially appealing for travelers who value flexibility, intimate experiences, and a personalized touch.

One of the things we love about this tour is the opportunity to customize your experience—you’re not stuck in a large group, and your own driver guide ensures you get a tailored day. Plus, the mix of cultural stops (like Mayan ruins), delicious stops (chocolate and tequila), and stunning scenery makes for a diverse day.

Jerry did a wonderful job of making sure we made the most of our day with him. The vehicle was clean, cool and well supplied with drinks. We will definitely book with you again.

We absolutely loved our tour with Alex! He was right where he said he would be upon our arrival. We stopped to buy some extra drinks before beginning our day. We opted to do the Chocolate Factory first ( informative and yummy, we enjoyed this), then the ruins, followed by tequila tasting. As advertised here, the ruins were a total of $14.50, and we opted for a tour guide who was great. Lots of information and he made it interactive as well. After the ruins we went to our tequila tasting. A welcome paloma was ready for the adults (4) and a non-alcoholic one for the kids (3). Quick tour and straight to tasting from there. It was delicious. After the tasting we decided on lunch instead of the b…

This was a family tour for us. Jerry met us just outside the pier at the end of the covered area past the taxi lines. He was wearing a yellow cap as expected. He introduced himself to all of us, then told us where to go so he could get his van and pick us up. Next thing we knew, we were off for a drive around the city to see the sights, monuments, etc. The van was roomy for us 7. There were 4 seats we didn’t even use. He let us hop out of the van at a Catholic Church to appreciate it more closely, about 10 minutes. He offered to let us out at several monuments, but the wind was cold and very strong, so we took pics from the windows of the comfortable van instead. He described the history o…

That said, a potential snag is that some reviews mention last-minute cancellations, so it’s wise to confirm and double-check your booking.

This experience is particularly suited for those who enjoy a leisurely, intimate exploration of Cozumel, with an interest in history, local flavors, and scenic views. It’s not ideal if you’re after a full-day tour or activities that require more physical exertion, but for a balanced taste of the island’s cultural and natural highlights, it seems to hit the spot.

Gerry was an amazing guy! He was known by everyone! Took us to the chocolate and tequila tours and to the San Gervasio ruins which we really enjoyed! Asked to grab yummy tacos at a place he would take his family and they were delicious. He joined us for lunch which was extra nice! He then drove us around looking at the different beach areas. Stopped for a drink and got the best mojitos sleeve ever had! It was a great tour to get an idea of what Cozumel has to offer and what we’d like to do on our next trip. Thanks Gerry for a great day with you.

Overall this excursion was good, but it's not for everyone. Here are the things you need to know. 1. When booking you get name of the driver you'll be meeting. When you arrive, it could be any one of the public taxi drivers at the taxi stand. Not a private vehicle. I was fine with it, but it might make some a little nervous 2. Our driver was nice, and knew some things about Cozumel as he was clearly a native. However, he spoke very little english. It was more like talking to a NYC taxi driver who knew all the island gossip. Not so much history, but he was nice and I speak spanish. 3. The tequila tasting was just a local distillery that has public tours. A quick google search revealed that yo…

Our private tour with Sergio was excellent. Sergio showed us the best of the island. We walked the town plaza and he helped me negotiate the price of a purchase. We went to the chocolate factory for a tour and tasting. My husband really enjoyed the tequila tasting .we also went to the east side of the island which had a big waves for great pictures. Sergio arranged for us to have a beach break and lunch before returning to the cruise port. We highly recommend a private tour with Sergio.

Chocolate Factory Tour

Next, you’ll visit a small but delightful chocolate factory, where the process of turning cacao beans into chocolate is explained. Tasting is included, and it’s an especially enjoyable stop for anyone with a sweet tooth or a curiosity about Mayan origins of cacao. Reviewers highlight this as informative and delicious, with one noting it as a "yummy" experience that provided insight into how the Maya first processed chocolate.

Tequila Tasting at Mi Mexico Lindo

No trip to Mexico is complete without sampling local spirits, and this tour includes a visit to a tequila distillery. You learn about the importance of agave and get a chance to taste different varieties. Several reviewers mention that the tequila was "great" and that the guide made it educational and fun. It’s a good opportunity to understand the cultural significance of tequila while enjoying some authentic drinks.

San Gervasio Mayan Archaeological Site

The highlight for many is the visit to San Gervasio. As the island's most important Mayan ruin site, it’s a window into ancient civilization. The site is well-preserved and offers great photo ops, especially of the temples and jungle surroundings. Keep in mind, the entrance fee ($10.50) isn’t included, so budget accordingly. Reviewers like Debbie note that the ruins are "the best-preserved" on the island and worth the visit.

Scenic Drive and Viewpoints

Driving along Cozumel’s coastal highway, your guide will stop at El Mirador, a scenic spot perfect for photos of the rugged east coast. It’s a brief 20-minute stop, but the views are noteworthy and provide a good chance to stretch and enjoy the ocean breeze.

Palancar Beach Relaxation

The final stop is Palancar Beach, a quieter spot away from the busy cruise port crowds. Here, you can swim, relax, or sunbathe in calm, clear waters. Some reviewers mention that the beach club has drinks and snacks, making it a perfect way to unwind before heading back to your hotel. Note that this part isn’t included in the price but can be arranged.

Return to Hotel

After a full, yet manageable, 5 hours, your guide will take you back, leaving you with good memories—be it of cultural insights, scenic vistas, or just the joy of a hassle-free day.
