If you’re heading to Huatulco and are curious about its historical sites, the Pyramids Archaeological Site HT tour is one experience many recommend. While it’s not the biggest or most famous archaeological site in Mexico, it offers a unique chance to explore ancient structures right by the Pacific Ocean, combining history, nature, and scenic views into a manageable half-day adventure.

What we really love about this tour is how personal and engaging the experience tends to be—small groups mean you get more personalized attention and the chance to ask plenty of questions. Plus, the knowledgeable guides seem genuinely proud of their region, making the history come alive with stories and insights.

On the downside, it’s a fairly short experience—about three hours—so if you’re after a deep dive into Mexican archaeology, this might feel a bit light.

This was a great tour in a beautiful location. We met Alberto right at the end of the pier and set off on our journey. There were 10 passengers in a comfortable, air conditioned van. Alberto discussed history on the way to the park and encouraged all our questions. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning and the view at the end was spectacular. Be advised that to get to the view over the ocean, it was a half mile up an incline including about 40 steps. Those who could not do that were about to wait at the bottom of the incline. The park was very beautiful and the ruins interesting. We learned alot. Alberto was so detailed in explaining history, culture and fauna that we ran slightly over. The bee…

It is worth the time to learn about the history, architecture, plant life and people's of Huatulco. The views of the beach below are outstanding. Alberto is very knowledgeable about this region. He makes an enjoyable experience for all who attend. There is some walking and stairs, this is not for the sedentary.

The trip was awesome and we learned so much about the Zapotecs and the wisdom of the mesoamerican. And our tour guide Alberto is so knowledgeable and shared everything he knows with us. His little bag is full of different teaching materials and whatever questions you have, he has the answer and tool to show you.

This tour works well for travelers who enjoy culture, scenic landscapes, and a relaxed pace. It’s especially suited for those who want a taste of local history without spending an entire day on a site, and it’s perfect if you prefer small groups over crowded bus tours. If you’re dreaming of a mix of history and ocean views, this could be just what you’re looking for.

It was very interesting and the guide was knowledgeable and personable. Perhaps wear long pants and bring bug spray.

Wear light clothing ( long pants if you want avoid the bugs and prickly plants.) there is a small-ish hike uphill. Not only were they on time, Alberto, our guide was knowledgeable and had great energy. Expect about 3 hours for round trip. Air conditioned vehicle and water provided (beer do the grown ups.) highly recommend!

We had a great experience on the Copalita archaeological tour in Huatulco. My husband especially really enjoyed it. The site itself is beautiful and full of history, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable—not just about the ruins, but also about the local birds, lizards, wildlife, and the broader history of the area. We learned a lot and never felt rushed during the tour. The only downside was during the booking process. We felt some pressure to change our chosen day to make it more convenient for the company, which was a bit off-putting. Once the tour began, however, everything ran smoothly and was very enjoyable. Overall, we would still recommend this tour, especially for anyone inter…
