If you’re planning a trip to Maui and want to see some of the most breathtaking scenery the island offers, a guided Road to Hana tour might just be the highlight of your visit. We’ve looked into one of the most highly-rated experiences—offered by Aloha Eco Adventures—that promises an intimate, well-rounded day exploring waterfalls, black sand beaches, rainforests, and more.
This tour is designed for travelers who prefer comfort, expert insights, and good value, all wrapped into one memorable journey.
What we love about this experience is the way it balances the stunning scenery with informative storytelling. Plus, the small group size really makes it feel personal—a big plus in a place known for its tricky roads and popular stops. That said, it’s a long day, so if you’re not a fan of 10-hour excursions or want more control over your stops, it’s worth considering.
This experience was amazing! Chase was our guide and his knowledge and storytelling was the highlight of the trip! Each stop was magical and combined with Chase’s storytelling put the experience over the top! The farm to table lunch was fabulous and its setting in the botanical garden was beautiful! I highly recommend this tour!
Bryan was a great guide for our day. He was SO knowledgable about Hawaii and the different parts of the island. Plus we appreciated his safe driving.
Great day exploring Maui with Chad! Top stops were the black sand beach and the amazing lunch at Hāna Farms. Give the pineapple pesto pizza a try—delicious!
Overall, it’s a great pick for those eager to see Maui’s natural beauty without the stress of navigating the infamous Hana Highway alone.
Who would this suit best? It’s great for travelers who want an organized, enjoyable day with local insights, especially if you’re not keen on driving all day or prefer not to miss the key sights. Families with older children, couples, or small groups looking to avoid the hassle of planning can find a lot to love here.

From there, your small van—limited to 13 travelers—begins winding along the famous Hana Highway, a route celebrated for its dramatic curves and breathtaking scenery. While the drive itself might be challenging for some, having a guide at the wheel makes all the difference.
Stops along the way are thoughtfully chosen to showcase Maui’s diverse landscapes. You’ll visit Paia town, a laid-back surf town with a bohemian vibe, great for a quick stroll or a coffee break. Hookipa Beach Park is renowned for its surf break and sea turtle sightings—a must-see for nature lovers.
The Rainbow eucalyptus trees are a highlight, with their vibrant, multicolored bark vividly contrasting the lush greenery.
In the rainforest, you’ll find the Weeping Wall and the bamboo forest—both offering lush scenery and excellent photo ops. The Keanae Peninsula features rugged coastline views, while Chings Pond provides peaceful setting for a quick dip if you’re feeling adventurous. The Waikane Falls invite you to swim or simply enjoy the cascading waters—your guide will advise on safety.
Bryan was incredibly knowledgeable about the Hawaiian culture, road to Hana sights, trees, animals, you name it! Great farm to table lunch. I’ve driven the road twice before, but this was the best! Let Bryan drive — you will have a lot more fun!
I selected this tour because of the unique lunch option- Farm to Table Pizza which did not disappoint. They had a lovely little gift shop, clean facilities and a garden. However that was only a small part of the extraordinary tour that Chase, our guide delivered. His thorough knowledge of the culture, history, flora and fauna kept us enthralled the whole day. We always felt safe w his driving skills and professionalism on this road, which can be tricky. You will not be disappointed with this all day informative tour, and especially if you are lucky enough to have this guide.
Our day started with a van pick up at 6:30 am at our resort. Comfortable van. There were drinks and munchies available whatever you wanted. The road to Hāna is long but Spectacular! So beautiful. The road is crazy windy and narrow. Shelley was our tour guide. She was funny, caring, engaging and so knowledgeable of the area, people and history. And what a courteous driver! Definitely a bright star in our day. And pizza for lunch! Yum! It was a good day for a good day.
One of the tour’s standout features is the visit to Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach, where you can stroll along the jet-black shoreline, explore sea caves, and take in incredible coastal vistas. This stop often becomes a favorite among travelers, not just for its scenery but for the chance to stretch your legs.
The Farm-to-Table Lunch
After a morning packed with sightseeing, you’ll arrive at Hana Farms for a lunch that’s worth bragging about. Instead of typical sandwiches, you’ll indulge in stone oven pizzas, unlimited fresh salads, and refreshing drinks.
It’s a farm-to-table experience supporting the local Hana community—something many travelers appreciate. You can also browse local items or tour the gardens, adding a relaxing, authentic touch to your day.
Waterfalls, Lava Tubes, and More
Post-lunch, more stops await—including Puaa Kaa Falls and lava tubes. The lava tubes are small but fascinating, giving you a glimpse of Hawaii’s volcanic past. The waterfalls and streams along the route provide stunning visuals, great for photography and moments of quiet awe.
Final Stops and Return
The tour wraps up in Hana town, giving you a chance to explore or shop before heading back along the scenic route. Your guide will share interesting tidbits about the area’s history and culture, making the whole journey a learning experience as well as a sightseeing adventure.

The Practicalities: What You Need to Know

The cost of $239 per person covers most essentials—meals, snacks, beverages, park fees, and transportation. For the value, especially given the personalized tour and expert guidance, it’s quite reasonable. It’s also flexible with free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance, offering peace of mind in case your plans change.
The tour accommodates most travelers, with a small group size ensuring comfort and attention. It’s a full-day (about 10 hours) experience, so it’s best suited for those who enjoy spending a whole day exploring rather than looking for a quick jaunt.
Transportation is via comfortable van, and pickup is available—be sure to specify your hotel or pickup location in advance. While not explicitly labeled as family-friendly, the long day, and some walking involved may be better suited for older children or teens.
