If you’re dreaming of experiencing the magic of Lapland’s winter landscape, this Arctic Snowmobiling Ride offers a pretty appealing way to do it. Guided by a friendly local, you’ll get to zip through snow-covered forests and frozen plains, soaking in the wilderness that defines this part of Finland.

It’s not just about the thrill—though that’s definitely part of it—but also about the quiet beauty of the landscape and the chance to share this adventure with someone special.

One thing we really like about this tour is how it balances excitement with comfort. The tour includes thermal clothing, so you stay warm without needing to pack bulky gear. Plus, the opportunity to stop for a hot drink and snack mid-ride is simple but appreciated.

Very easy to get the transfer from the centre of Rovaniemi to the activity – it only takes about 10-15 min to just the other side of Santa Claus Village. The activity was very well ran and the overalls they provide are very well suited to keep you warm. I would also recommned getting a pair of the gloves they provide as your hands can get cold when riding. You ride through the forest in smaller groups of about 6-8 vehicles and I would recommend getting the first snowmobile in the line behind the instructor for a better experience. Being able to ride the snowmobile flat-out over a frozen lake is something I will remember for a long time.

This is a must activity when you’re In Rovaniemi. The transportation and the tour guide was informative regarding the whereabouts. My advice is wear gloves if you’re the driver. 👌🏻

On the flip side, this experience might not be ideal for those looking for a solo, high-adrenaline ride, since sharing a snowmobile with a partner is the norm here. Still, if you’re okay with a shared ride and enjoy scenic, laid-back fun, this tour could be a great pick.

This tour feels best suited for those who want a genuine taste of Lapland’s winter wilderness without too much hassle. While children over 2 are welcome, it’s really aimed at travelers comfortable with outdoor winter activities and who appreciate a relaxed pace with stunning views.

Once there, the tour kicks off with a comprehensive safety briefing and an introduction to the snowmobiles. You’ll be provided with thermal clothing, which is a thoughtful touch, ensuring you’re warm and comfortable throughout the ride.

The core part of the experience is a roughly two-hour guided snowmobile ride through pristine, snow-blanketed forests and across frozen lakes. The guide, speaking English, will lead you along scenic trails that showcase some of the most beautiful winter scenery Lapland has to offer. During the ride, you’ll get the chance to take the wheel with your companion, switching turns as you go. The route often includes scenic hilltops, where you’re rewarded with panoramic views of the snowy wilderness. Our impressions from other travelers highlight how breathtaking these vistas can be—many say the views alone are worth the trip. It’s a peaceful, almost meditative experience, punctuated by the occasional burst of adrenaline when you’re steering through more open, flat terrain.

Midway through, everyone takes a break to warm up. The tour includes a hot beverage—typically tea or coffee—and a small snack, providing a cozy spot to chat with your guide and fellow travelers. It’s a simple touch but adds a layer of comfort, especially if the weather is particularly brisk.

We loved it! Chris was so helpful during the activity, he explained from A to Z and guided us seamlessly even though it was the first time for us to ride the snowmobile. It was freezing cold but we totally enjoyed from the start to the end. Kudos to Chris!

The Experience Itself: Pros and Cons

Rovaniemi: Arctic Snowmobiling Ride with Local Guide - The Experience Itself: Pros and Cons

What travelers love: Many reviews mention the stunning views as a highlight—"absolutely breathtaking" and "the scenery alone is worth it." The guide’s friendliness and knowledge also earn praise, making the ride feel safe and welcoming even for first-timers.

What could be better: The shared snowmobile arrangement isn’t for everyone, especially if you’re used to solo adventures. Some mention that the ride can be physically demanding if you’re not used to handling snowmobiles or cold weather. Also, the tour requires at least two participants, so if you’re traveling solo, you’ll need to pay the extra for a single rider.

Weather considerations: Since the tour depends heavily on winter conditions, it’s wise to be prepared for cold, possibly snowy weather. The thermal clothing helps, but dressing in layers and bringing gloves will make the experience more comfortable.
