5.0(952 reviews)From $107.63 per person

We found this sailing experience exceptional for two standout reasons. First, the commitment to keeping groups small—capped at just 12 passengers—creates a fundamentally different day on the water compared to the mega-boat operations that cram 300 people onto a single vessel. You actually get personal attention from the crew, room to stretch out on deck, and the chance to feel like you’re sailing with friends rather than joining a floating crowd. Second, the price-to-value ratio is genuinely impressive. At around $107 per person for a full day including lunch, wine, snorkeling equipment, and multiple swimming stops in some of Sardinia’s most protected waters, you’re getting authentic hospitality and quality food that typically costs much more.

That said, there’s one consideration worth noting: pricing can increase significantly during peak season (July and August), sometimes doubling from the advertised base rate. This is normal for popular summer experiences in Sardinia, but it’s worth factoring into your budget if you’re traveling during these months.

This tour works beautifully for travelers who want more than a typical beach day—whether you’re couples seeking romance on the water, families with kids looking for a manageable adventure, or anyone who appreciates good food, wine, and genuine local hospitality. If you’re the type who’d rather have a meaningful conversation with your boat captain than fight for deck space with hundreds of strangers, this is your experience.

This tour was one of the best out of many tours we have done in the Mediterranean. Guiseppe and Salvatore were nothing but class. They welcomed us with a nice coffee before we hit the sea. Then from there we were able to stop at 3 incredible locations for a swim and relaxation. They were also very informative giving us facts about the islands as well as appetizers, lunch and some great wine! Would highly recommend anyone to do the tour!

We had a wonderful day out sailing with Claudia and Simone! The pasta lunch was delicious and they were very kind and accomodating to our group. Highly recommend!

The Experience at a Glance

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - The Experience at a Glance

You’ll spend roughly 7 to 8 hours on the water, departing from Palau at 9:30 a.m. and returning to the same meeting point by late afternoon. The itinerary isn’t rigidly fixed—captains adjust routes based on weather and sea conditions to ensure both safety and the best possible experience. This flexibility matters more than it might seem; it means you’re working with experienced sailors who prioritize your comfort over checking boxes on a predetermined route.

The tour accommodates most fitness levels, and the crew is accustomed to working with families, including young children. One traveler mentioned bringing a 3-year-old and an 11-year-old, and both had wonderful days. However, if you have specific dietary restrictions beyond vegetarian or no-fish options, the operators recommend bringing your own packed lunch, as the onboard kitchen has limitations.

What Happens When You Arrive

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - What Happens When You Arrive

You’ll meet at Piazza del Molo in Palau, a working harbor where fishing boats and tour vessels share the waterfront. Give yourself time to find parking—one family’s advice: arrive early in summer, as Palau’s parking situation gets genuinely hectic in July and August. The crew typically welcomes you with coffee before departure, a small gesture that sets the tone for the day ahead.

The sailboat itself is well-maintained and comfortable. You’ll have access to shade, a bathroom onboard, and enough deck space that you won’t feel cramped even with 12 passengers. The boat is built for sailing rather than speed, which means when conditions allow, you’ll actually feel the experience of sailing rather than just riding in something that happens to float.

The Itinerary: Three Stops in Paradise

The Famous Pink Beach Vista

Your first stop is a visual rather than a swimming one. You’ll pass the Spiaggia Rosa (Pink Beach), one of the world’s most photographed stretches of sand, famous for its rose-colored grains created by crushed coral and shells. The beach is now protected by the national park and closed to swimming, but viewing it from the water gives you the experience without the environmental impact of adding to the crowds. It’s the kind of stop that makes for excellent photos and gives you a sense of the archipelago’s uniqueness.

La Maddalena National Park—The Main Event (3 hours)

This is where you’ll spend the bulk of your day. The crew navigates to a natural swimming pool area within the protected waters, where the water clarity is genuinely stunning. One traveler described it simply: “We were able to stop at 3 incredible locations for a swim and relaxation.” While you’re swimming and snorkeling in turquoise water, the crew is preparing lunch. This isn’t pre-packaged food—it’s typically fresh pasta or fish dishes prepared onboard. Multiple reviews mention “delicious pasta,” “homemade antipasto,” and “Sardinian fish” prepared by crew members who clearly take pride in their cooking.

We were on a family trip in the beautiful Sardinia and this was by far our best experience. Simone and Claudia truly made us feel like we were part of their family. In addition we had another family in the sailboat and we all blended beautifully. Claudia prepared delicious food for us including snacks, pasta and fruit as well as drinks! Simone took every opportunity to make this a memorable trip by personally dropping us off at every beautiful beach and picking us up. He was an optimal captain making safety a priority. After the experience Claudia also texted me some recommendations on beautiful beaches to visit in Sardinia. We miss them already! 100% recommend!

Highly recommend this sailing boat with Giuseppe! He was a great skipper and there are only a limited number of places on the boat, so we felt really looked after and had plenty of space to sunbathe etc. Giuseppe took us to beautiful spots for swimming and so much fun when we got the sails up! Salvatore made us delicious aperitif and cooked us up a great pasta lunch. The wine and local Sardinian digestif were the icing on the cake – 10/10 experience

We had an amazing time sailing with Claudia and Simone. The boat, locations, food and hosting were second to none. Highly recommend this trip – we could not be happier.

The wine selection here deserves its own mention. You'll get local Vermentino white wine, beer, and Sardinian myrtle liqueur—not just poured in plastic cups, but treated as part of the experience. One reviewer noted: "The wine and local Sardinian digestif were the icing on the cake." The crew also provides bottled water, soft drinks, coffee, and tea throughout the day, so you're never without refreshment.

Isola di Spargi—The Snorkeling Stop (1 hour)

Your final major stop takes you to the coves of Spargi Island, where you'll have dedicated time for snorkeling and swimming. The island's small, protected coves are accessible only by boat, which is part of what makes this experience special. You're visiting places most travelers never see because they can't reach them on foot.

The Crew Makes the Difference

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - The Crew Makes the Difference

What emerges clearly from reading 952 reviews is that this tour's success depends entirely on the people running it. Crews vary—you might sail with Giuseppe and Salvatore, or Claudia and Simone, or Alberto and Augustine—but the consistent thread is genuine hospitality. One family described their experience this way: "Simone and Claudia truly made us feel like we were part of their family. Claudia prepared delicious food for us including snacks, pasta and fruit as well as drinks. Simone took every opportunity to make this a memorable trip by personally dropping us off at every beautiful beach and picking us up."

That level of attentiveness—actually ferrying passengers to beaches rather than just anchoring nearby, remembering dietary preferences, offering to teach guests how to steer the boat—these aren't accidents. They're the result of crews who care about their work. Multiple reviews mention skippers who are skilled sailors and equally skilled at making nervous first-time boaters feel secure and comfortable.

What's Included, What Isn't

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - Whats Included, What Isnt

The tour includes far more than the basic boat ride. You're getting snorkeling equipment, lunch, wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, tea, and appetizers featuring Sardinian products. That's a substantial package for the price. What you'll need to bring yourself: a beach towel and sun protection. The operator notes that if you have significant food intolerances beyond vegetarian or no-fish options, you should bring your own lunch, as the onboard kitchen can't accommodate complex dietary needs.

Transportation to the meeting point isn't included, though optional transfers are available for a fee. In practice, Palau is small and accessible, and the meeting point is right at the harbor.

The Value Question

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - The Value Question

We'd be remiss not to address pricing directly, because one review did raise this concern. The base price of $107.63 can increase to €180 (roughly $195) during peak season. One traveler felt this didn't represent value compared to other tours. The operator's response is worth considering: larger boat tours with 300 passengers cost less, but you're not getting the same experience. The comparison isn't apples-to-apples.

What you're paying for is a small group, quality food and wine prepared onboard, personalized attention from skilled sailors, and access to protected marine areas where bigger boats can't go. If you're comparing this to a budget mega-boat tour, yes, it costs more. If you're comparing it to other small-group, all-inclusive sailing experiences in the Mediterranean, the pricing is actually competitive.

Practical Considerations

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - Practical Considerations

Booking Timeline: Most people book about 23 days in advance, which gives you flexibility but also suggests you shouldn't wait until the last minute during summer months. The tour operates on a mobile ticket system, so you'll receive confirmation immediately upon booking.

Group Size: The 12-person maximum matters more than it might sound. You're not fighting for space, you're not waiting 45 minutes for everyone to get food, and the crew can actually remember your name and preferences. One traveler specifically noted: "There are only a limited number of places on the boat, so we felt really looked after and had plenty of space to sunbathe."

Weather Considerations: The tour requires good weather. If it's canceled due to poor conditions, you'll be offered a different date or full refund. Itineraries can change based on sea conditions, which is exactly how it should be. One group experienced bad weather at the start but noted that "the Maddalena archipelago has wonderful colours always," and the day still turned out wonderfully.

Cancellation Policy: You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure. Changes made less than 24 hours out won't be accepted, so plan accordingly.

The Small Negatives Worth Knowing

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - The Small Negatives Worth Knowing

Out of 952 reviews, there are a handful of lower ratings. One person felt the food waste management wasn't what it should be—the operator flatly denied this and suggested the reviewer may have been on a different boat tour. Another felt pricing didn't match value compared to other options. These are outliers in an overwhelmingly positive set of reviews, but they're worth noting because they're the kinds of concerns that matter to some travelers.

One practical piece of advice from a family with young children: arrive early if you're driving, especially in summer. Parking in Palau can be genuinely challenging during peak season.

Who This Tour Is Really For

Sailboat tour from PALAU to the Maddalena Archipelago. - Who This Tour Is Really For

This experience works brilliantly for travelers who value quality over quantity. You want to sail, not just ride a boat. You want to know your crew's names and hear stories about the islands. You want lunch that tastes like someone cared about it. You want wine that's meant to be sipped, not just consumed. You're willing to pay a bit more because you understand that small groups, skilled crews, and fresh food cost more than the alternative.

It's equally wonderful for families wanting a manageable adventure with kids. For couples looking for romance on the water. For friends wanting to celebrate something special. For anyone who's ever looked at a picture of Sardinia's turquoise waters and thought, "I want to actually be there, not just look at it."

It's less ideal if you're primarily seeking the cheapest possible boat tour, or if you're uncomfortable on small vessels, or if you have complex dietary needs that the crew can't accommodate.
