Planning a trip to Santorini? If you’re after a comprehensive way to see the island’s top sights without the hassle of planning every detail yourself, this Santorini Day Tour with Sunset in Oia might be worth considering. While it’s not a personalized private experience, it offers a solid overview packed with scenic stops, cultural insights, and that unforgettable Oia sunset—all in one day.
What we really like about this tour is how it hits all the essentials: visiting the ancient site of Akrotiri, exploring charming villages like Emporio and Pyrgos, tasting local wines, and finishing with a sunset in the world-famous village of Oia. Plus, the inclusion of hotel pickup makes logistics easier, especially if you’re staying somewhere in Fira.
That said, it’s a long day, and some travelers have found the organization a bit inconsistent, so be prepared for a busy schedule.
We had such an amazing time! This tour was such a great value; it even included wine tasting!! Our tour guide Olga was very friendly. Awesome experience. 10/10 Highly recommend!
Great time seeing the island! The wine tasting was the best part. The wine museum was fabulous! Great for the price
.Christine, our exceptional tour guide, ensured that we had the best day tour, covering all the important stops.
This tour suits travelers who want a guided overview of Santorini’s highlights with minimal fuss—those who appreciate a comfortable bus ride, guides, and the chance to see a lot in one go.
If you’re after a relaxed, less structured experience or want to explore at your own pace, this might not be the best fit. But for those wanting an efficient taste of the island with some lovely scenery and cultural stops, it could work well.

Starting Point and Pickup
Your day kicks off with a pickup at your Fira hotel or the designated meeting point. The journey begins at 10:30 am, and from there, it’s a full day of sightseeing. The air-conditioned bus makes for a comfortable ride, especially in the warm Greek sun, but be prepared for a long day.
Akrotiri Archaeological Site
The first major stop is at Akrotiri, one of the best-preserved ancient settlements in the Aegean. A guided tour by an archaeologist adds a lot of value here, giving you insights into the prehistoric city buried by volcanic ash. The entrance fee (around 12 euros per person) isn’t included, so budgeting for that is wise.
This site is fascinating because of its well-preserved ruins and the way it transports you back in time. Reviewers mention that the tour here is somewhat pricey, but many appreciate the guided angle, which enriches the experience rather than just wandering on your own.
Emporio Village
Next, the tour takes you to Emporio, a medieval village with narrow streets and whitewashed churches—straight out of a storybook. A walking tour shows you the village’s historic charm and the old-world feel of Greece outside the more popular spots. Visitors love the beauty and authenticity of Emporio, describing it as a highlight for those looking for a glimpse of traditional life.
The driver that originally picked us up, well, he received a phone call that had him screaming, he then proceeded to rage drive, he was skidding around corners, blow through stop signs, and drive so fast, my husband and I were terrified! We were being thrown around the car; we didn’t have time to put on the seatbelts! We thought we were going to crash! When he picked up our tour guide, she tried to calm him down, but she was scared also. The rest of the tour, once we got on the bus, was perfect! I would recommend to anybody wanting to see the island.
A superbly organised, informative tour. A viewpoint to start off with followed by a lovely walk around ancient Emporio. We then had a really interesting tour around the Akrotiri site which dates back to 1600 BC. Lunch at beautiful Perissa beach and wine tasting plus a perfect end with the sunset in Oia. Kim, our guide was super friendly and knowlegable and did not stop giving us interesting facts in between each stop. Our driver was equally excellent! Highly recommend. Bus was on time for our pick up in Firostefani and dropped us back there right near out hotel. It was perfect 😊
This tour was OK. It was a bigger group tour, a bus, so about 25 people. The guide, Mary was very nice and explained things as we drove around. But because the tour is for a large group, it's not very personal. I did not like the driver, I can't recall his name, but he was not friendly or personable at all. At one point, I went back early to sit on the bus to wait for my family, and the driver started smoking in the bus. And he closed the back door! I had to get out. It was beautiful to see Oia, but it's way too crowded. WAY to crowded. Especially around that castle to see the sunset. I could not stand the crowds. You can get lost so quickly. I actually would recommend this tour…
Perissa Beach and Lunch Break
After Emporio, you get some free time at Perissa Beach, a black sand beach. Here, you can relax, swim, or grab lunch (at your own expense). The flexible schedule lets you indulge in a beachside meal or just unwind under the sun. Many mention that the beach is a lovely spot and a great way to rest after the morning’s sightseeing.
Pyrgos Village and Profitis Ilias Monastery
Driving past Pyrgos, you'll admire its panoramic views and old-world charm. The stop at Profitis Ilias Monastery, located on the island’s highest peak, offers stunning vistas over Santorini. It’s a quick photo op but adds a sense of the island’s spiritual and scenic height.
Winery Visit and Wine Tasting
A visit to a local winery is included, where you can taste some of Santorini’s unique wines—an appreciated feature for wine lovers. Many reviews highlight the wine tasting as a pleasant addition, giving you a taste of the local flavors and a bit of context about Santorini’s wine-making tradition.
Oia and the Sunset
The final major stop is Oia, the village famous worldwide for its sunset views. You have about 1.5 hours here to explore, shop, or just soak in the scenery. The crowds can be intense at sunset, but the view is undeniably breathtaking. A few travelers suggest finding a quiet spot in one of the small inlets for capturing the perfect photo rather than fighting crowds at the main lookout.
Returning to Fira
After sunset, the bus takes you back to Fira, ending the full day of discovery. While some reviews mention logistical issues, most find the overall experience rewarding, especially with guides and the chance to see so much in one day.
The Practicalities: Transportation, Timing, and Cost

The tour operates with a pickup from Fira at 10:30 am, and the entire day lasts around 10 hours. The bus is air-conditioned, which is a real plus after walking around in the heat, and group size maxes out at about 50 travelers, balancing comfort with social atmosphere.
The cost of around $68.61 per person is reasonable considering the length of the tour, multiple stops, and guided elements. Entrance fees to Akrotiri aren’t included, so plan for an additional €12. If you’re a wine enthusiast, the tasting is a bonus included in the price. However, lunch is on your own, so you might want to bring some snacks or budget extra for a beachside meal.
Some travelers have voiced frustrations about uncertain pick-up details, with a few having difficulty locating the meeting point. If you’re staying in Fira, confirming the exact meeting spot beforehand can save some stress.
Who Should Consider This Tour?
This experience is best suited for travelers who want a structured day of sightseeing with the benefit of a guide explaining the history and culture. If you’re a first-timer or prefer a hassle-free way to cover the main sights, this tour offers good value. However, if you prefer exploring at your own pace or dislike big groups, it may feel a bit rushed.
What the Reviews Say

Many guests appreciate the guides, describing them as articulate and engaging, which helps bring Santorini’s sites alive. The wine tasting and sunset in Oia stand out as some of the best moments—spectacular views, unforgettable scenery.
However, a handful of reviews point to organizational issues like poor communication about pick-up locations and long waiting times, which can be frustrating, especially if you’re relying on precise schedules. Some found the overall value fair, noting that the tour covers major highlights but also that some sites (like Akrotiri) may feel overpriced if visited on your own.
One guest mentioned that the long hours could be tiring, but most agree that it’s a worthwhile way to get a comprehensive snapshot of the island.
The Bottom Line: Is It Worth It?

If you’re after a full-day guided tour that hits the highlights of Santorini—covering ancient ruins, scenic villages, a wine tasting, and sunset views—this experience offers a lot of bang for your buck. It’s particularly suitable if you prefer the comfort of air-conditioned bus transport and guided commentary, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the island.
The tour’s biggest strengths are its professional guides, variety of stops, and the chance to see Oia’s sunset without worrying about driving or logistics. The main drawbacks are the large group size, which can feel crowded, and some logistical hiccups noted by past travelers.
For travelers who want a balance of sightseeing, cultural insights, and relaxed pacing, this outing makes for a practical, enjoyable day. Just be ready for a long, busy schedule—and if organizational details concern you, double-check your meeting point in advance.
