Exploring the Silver Springs Manatee Kayak Tour: An Honest Look

If you’re dreaming of paddling through Florida’s famous clear waters and catching glimpses of manatees, turtles, and maybe even monkeys, the Silver Springs Manatee Kayak Tour might just be what you’re looking for. While we haven’t personally hit the water ourselves, the glowing reviews and detailed descriptions paint a pretty enticing picture. It’s a small-group adventure that’s perfect for nature lovers, families, or anyone craving a peaceful escape with lots of wildlife.
What we really appreciate about this tour are the knowledgeable guides who seem passionate about sharing the area’s natural beauty and wildlife hotspots—and the crystal-clear water that makes the experience all the more special. Also, the fact that wildlife sightings are common year-round, not just during the official manatee season, means you have a good shot at seeing these gentle giants regardless of when you visit.
Aaron the guide is very helpful and friendly, saw manatees at blue springs after Aaron suggested we swap from silver springs. I highly recommend the experience
we had a 3 hour rain delay. our guide was so patient and waited around. i’m so thankful we decided to wait it out. the views were beautiful. aaron was very knowledgeable and had lots our humor!!! 10/10
Aaron was an awesome tour guide. He took time to teach us as 3 of us were beginners in kayaking. He kept us informed especially in the do’s and dont’s, and what not to bring during the kayaking. He was very knowledgeable. We stayed for a while to wait for Manatees, saw a lot of gators and guess what? A gator that ate its prey. What a scene!!! The spring is phenomenal: a lot of big fishes that we just see on TV, a lot of different birds and a prehistoric snapping turtle. The nature cooperated and the weather was perfect. We liked that Aaron had a person limit in his booking that it made it more focus and personalized. We will do it again with him!!
Of course, no experience is perfect; one thing to keep in mind is that the tour is relatively short, about an hour and a half, so if you’re hoping for a full-day adventure, you might want to look elsewhere. But for a relaxed, manageable outing, this tour offers excellent value. It’s best suited to those who enjoy gentle paddling, wildlife spotting, and learning about Florida’s natural environment without the hassle of complicated logistics.

What makes this tour stand out?
The first thing that catches your attention is the small group size—capped at six kayaks per tour. This means you’re not just another face in a crowd; instead, you get more personalized attention from your guide. It’s especially helpful if you’re new to kayaking or just prefer a relaxed, less hectic vibe. Plus, the fact that the tour is capped at 9 travelers makes it feel more like a casual outdoor gathering than a big commercial operation.
The tour is run by AWA Kayak Tours, which has built a strong reputation based on reviews that consistently praise their friendly, knowledgeable guides. One reviewer even mentions how Aaron, their guide, was helpful, patient, and funny—making the experience enjoyable even for beginners.
What will you see on this tour?
The itinerary involves paddling the Fort King loop at Silver Springs, a route that’s rich with wildlife and scenic views. Expect to spot turtles, alligators at a safe distance, and birds—and, if you’re lucky, manatees—especially during the official season from November through March, but also some year-round sightings of the seven manatees that call Silver Springs home. Some reviews mention seeing manatees at Blue Springs after their guide’s suggestion, which shows the guides’ commitment to finding wildlife.
Beyond the iconic manatees, the tour often features monkeys, which is a fun surprise since they’re not always easy to spot. The guide’s local knowledge is key here, as they know the wildlife hot-spots and can steer you toward the best viewing areas.
The water and scenery
One of the highlights is undoubtedly the water itself. It’s described as crystal clear, which makes paddling peaceful and visually stunning. Imagine paddling through water so clear you can see the bottom at a decent depth—definitely a rare treat. Many reviewers mention how beautiful the surroundings are, with some even comparing it to a postcard scene.
Aaron was amazing. He was very knowledgable about the area, and knew where to go to see manatees and other wildlife. He made our 2hr kayak experience exactly what we were hoping for. Would recommend Aaron for this tour 100 percent.
