We did the snowmobile experience with Chasing lights on Saturday, December 20, 2025 and would absolutely recommend. It is definitely an early start, but it's the only way the whole day is possible with the amount of light you have during this time of year. It was approximately a 2 hour drive to get to the snowmobiles. Our guide was Jefta. As we got closer to the location he was so kind and didn't just throw the bus lights on after we'd been in the dark for 2 hours. He slowly woke us up. As silly as it sounds, that made me so happy. I hate when people just throw the lights on. There were 15 people in our group, which was a good number. I don't think I would want to go with anymore. There a…

Amazing excursion! The guides were so great, took amazing photos of the group and were very knowledgeabls.

Had a fantastic trip through the tundra of Norway,Finland and Sweden. our tour guides where great and very knowledgeable of the surroundings. They all worked well with their 2 groups, I would have given them a 5 if only we had a little more freedom to venture out instead of a straight line of snowmobiles, thinking this could have added to the experience of being on these machines, but all in all it was a good trip. and our Bus driver was excellent at his road skills in getting us there safe, truly a professional.

The only caveat? The long drive from Tromsø means a very early start and quite a bit of transfer time, which might not suit everyone.

This tour is best suited for adventure lovers who want a solid mix of scenery, culture, and outdoor fun. It’s great for those who enjoy winter landscapes and aren’t solely focused on adrenaline rushes.

If you’re after a genuinely immersive Arctic experience with some comfort and safety, this could be a memorable day trip. However, if you’re expecting hours of nonstop snowmobiling, keep in mind that actual driving time might be limited.

The Itinerary and What You’ll Experience

The adventure starts early, with a meeting point in Tromsø at Samuel Arnesens gate 5. Expect to be picked up around 6:15 am, so be prepared for an early start—this tour is designed to maximize daylight hours in winter. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours in a comfortable bus to Kilpisjärvi, a scenic village in Finnish Lapland, where the real fun begins.

Once you arrive, you’re fitted with warm, protective clothing, suits, boots, and extra socks. The safety briefing covers how to operate the snowmobile, safety rules, and what to do in case of emergency—an essential step, especially for beginners. Guides are knowledgeable and helpful, often sharing insights about the landscapes and local culture.

The core of the experience revolves around snowmobiling across a variety of terrains—from expansive frozen lakes to rugged trails. The highlight is typically crossing the 3-Country Border, where Finland, Sweden, and Norway meet. As one reviewer exclaimed, “Going across the three countries in one day on a snowmobile was amazing.” However, keep in mind that actual riding time can be limited.

The experience was great .. just haven’t received photos from guide as promised..told it would take 24 hours to send

Several guests, including one who felt they only spent about an hour driving, have pointed out that much of the scheduled day involves long transfers and stops, which can be frustrating if you’re expecting hours of continuous snowmobiling.

Scenic Stops and Photo Opportunities

One of the highlights is the chance to pause and take in the breathtaking scenery. Some stops include the majestic Saana Mountain or frozen lakes, great for photos or just soaking in the Arctic silence.

Guests often comment on how beautiful the landscape is, with reviews describing the views as “stunning” and “incredible.” Guides tend to be friendly and take professional photos, which are emailed afterward—an appreciated touch for many.

Food, Warmth, and Comfort

Included in the package is a hot beverage and a warm lunch, which is vital after a morning of outdoor activity. Many reviews highlight the quality of the food, describing it as hearty and satisfying. The tour provides warm suits, boots, and extra socks, ensuring you won’t feel the full brunt of Arctic cold, though layering is recommended, especially if the weather dips lower.

the activity was fun, educational, enriching,. highly recommended, an experience you would not want to miss.

Long journey to the start point but is well worth it (expect an early start). We were split into 3 groups and had Jonas as a guide. You then go through Finish Lapland ending at the point where 3 countries meet (Finland, Sweden and Norway). You go across frozen lakes and snow covered terrain, stopping at various points along the way. Jonas took plenty of excellent pictures which are shared with you after the event. There’s also a food stop along the way. We shared a snowmobile so I drove there and the wife drove back. You are loaned plenty of warm clothing. All in all, an unforgettable experience.

It was an amazing experience. For people like me and husband who normally travel for warmer climate, this was a great winter experience. The guides, Jonas, michiel, and jefta were all great. They made sure the tour ran smooth and safe. Very knowledgeable and kept the actual snowbile experience bearable in the cold. The 3 country region border was cool to see. We snowmobiled through the lake and that was cool on its own.

Group Size, Duration, and Logistics

This tour is capped at 14 travelers, which strikes a good balance between intimacy and social vibe. The total duration, from pick-up to return, is around 10 hours—factoring in the long travel time from Tromsø and the stops along the way. The group is split into smaller riding groups guided by professionals, adding a layer of safety and friendliness.

The Actual Snowmobiling: What to Expect?

For many, the most anticipated part—riding the snowmobiles—is a mixed bag in terms time. As one review reviewer shared, “we only drove for about an hour of steady actual driving,” despite the promotional images and descriptions indicating a full day of snowmobiling.

Some guests felt the schedule was more about sightseeing and less about the thrill of riding, mainly due to logistical issues such as stops for hot drinks or delays caused by weather or other factors.

The Good and the Not-So-Good

Positives include guides, fantastic scenery, warm gear, and the overall safety-oriented approach. Many travelers describe the guides as friendly, helpful, and full of interesting facts. The inclusion of professional photos is a standout for those wanting to remember the trip.

Marius is an excellent and informed guide. Packed a great warm curry stew and the cabin was perfect. Great at photographing the beauty and adventure. Only problem is if you get stuck behind slow drivers who keep you behind the group and GO WAY TOO SLOWLY. Happened to one of my sons.
Jean E
Beautiful arctic scenery Very knowledgeable guide. Supplied us with great pictures Very safety oriented
Patrick K
Lots of fun! Tour guides were friendly, helpful, and great at ensuring everyone was having a good time. Snow mobiling through Finland and Sweden was a nice bonus. Definitely recommend!

On the downside, long travel times, limited actual snowmobile driving, and unpredictable route changes due to weather or safety concerns can detract from the promised experience.

One traveler expressed disappointment, saying, “This tour could have been amazing, but it fell short because of the short driving time.” It’s worth noting that the experience can vary day-to-day, and some guests have had a more active riding experience than others.

Pricing and Value

At around $375 per person, this tour offers a lot—transport, gear, guiding, and meals. For many, this feels like reasonable value considering the costs of logistics and safety gear in Arctic conditions. The inclusion of photos and the chance to cross three countries adds a unique dimension.

However, if your main goal is hours of snowmobiling, you might find the actual riding time doesn't quite match expectations. Still, the scenic and cultural aspects help justify the cost for most.

Who Should Consider This Tour?

This adventure is ideal for those who want a taste of Arctic snowmobiling with scenic stops and expert guidance. It’s suitable for beginners, thanks to the safety gear and instructions, but keep in mind the actual riding time might be limited for experienced snowmobilers.

If you’re traveling with family, children aged 8 and up can ride as passengers, but drivers must be 18+ and have no driving license requirement.

It's great for travelers who appreciate a well-organized day with beautiful views, good food, and a calm pace that emphasizes scenery over high adrenaline. Conversely, if you're after hours of continuous snowmobiling or a more “adventure-heavy” day, this might not fully satisfy.
