What immediately caught our eye is how this experience combines expert guiding with a focus on nature—you’re not just ticking off a popular landmark but exploring tucked-away spots that most visitors miss. I had the pleasure of joining the Preikestolen Hiking Tour on October 8th, and I can’t recommend Sean highly enough as a guide. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the hike. Even though the weather wasn’t ideal that day, Sean went above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable. He took us along forest trails that most others wouldn’t explore, making the hike feel unique and adventurous. His care and dedication ensured that everyone completed the hike safely and with a great experience. If you’re looking for a hiking guide who is not only skilled but also passionate and considerate, Sean is the one. Thank you, Sean, for making this hike memorable!

The day was absolutely fantastic. We had beautiful weather and thus larger crowds on Preikestolen, but we barely noticed most of the way thanks to our Fjord Hikes guide’s knowledge of the forest and trail system. Kenny kept our children (14. 13, 10) motivated and entertained with his funny but appropriate jokes and stories. They learned a lot about the forest and Norwegian culture. Can’t recommend this experience enough!

One potential consideration is the additional effort required—this isn’t your average stroll. The terrain involves a short, steep climb and some moderate terrain, but it’s balanced by the rewarding views and uncrowded trail. If you’re after a calmer, more immersive experience that keeps the crowds at bay, this is a great pick. If you prefer a very relaxed, sightseeing-only day, you might find this slightly more challenging.

This tour suits nature lovers, avid photographers, and seasoned hikers who want a unique, less crowded way to see Preikestolen and the surrounding fjord country. It’s also a good choice if you’re traveling with a small group and value personalized guide service.

This 7-hour adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from Stavanger or Sandnes, included in the price, which takes you across the world’s longest undersea tunnel—an experience in itself. The journey sets the tone for a day filled with discovery, as your guide starts to share insights into the region’s natural and cultural heritage. This isn’t just about reaching the summit; it’s about connecting with the landscape in a way that most travelers don’t get to.

The hike kicks off with a short, steep climb from the parking area, which might test your legs early on, but it’s a manageable start. From there, the trail veers into a less-traveled back-country path—a real treat for those who want to avoid the typical crowds. As you walk through thick forests, pass by streams and small lakes, your guide will stop to highlight native plants, berries, mosses, and lichens—a botanical lesson wrapped into your walk. Several reviews mention how engaging and knowledgeable guides enhance the experience, with one traveler noting that “Sean was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the hike,” making the day memorable despite the weather not always cooperating.

The trail continues upward toward Neverdalsfjellet, a viewpoint that offers panoramic views of Lysefjorden and Stavanger. This spot is relatively unknown to most visitors, making it a peaceful pause away from the busy main trail. Here, you can take photos, absorb the scenery, and appreciate the quiet beauty of Norway’s mountains. From this vantage point, you’ll see Preikestolen from above—an impressive perspective that’s less crowded than the popular plateau itself.

Next, it’s time to descend to the famous Preikestolen plateau. Here, the cliffs are as exhilarating as ever, with the fjord stretching below. Some reviews mentioned how guides like Kenny kept children motivated and entertained, making it a family-friendly tone despite the physical effort involved. A relaxing break here allows for photos, snacks, or just soaking in the view. The guide will then help you choose your preferred route back, which could involve retracing your steps or taking an alternative trail, adding flexibility to your journey.

I had a wonderful day with Sean to Preikestolen. Picked up on time from my hotel, off the busy track (we only met another 3 people on our way to the Preikestolen), in a small group- Sean takes max 8 people with him – we walked and climbed in wonderful norwegian natur for about 5 hours ( up and down) in an individual speed I guess I am not the fastest which did not matter because Sean takes his time to make this a great experience with explanations about the local flora and fauna, a coffee break (he always carries coffee) — and stunning views. If you want to avoid the crowds — there is no other way to explore the Preikestolen. Jean is offering longer trips for a couple of days into the na…

We had an incredible hiking experience thanks to our guide Sean! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire hike. His passion for nature and the local area really enhanced the journey. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure with a great guide to Pulpit rock. Sean took us through a hidden route which felt like we were hiking alone and we were rarely amongst other hikers. We are not experienced hikers and Sean held a comfortable pace throughout and also took us some good photos 🙂

Throughout the day, the small group size and personalized attention shine. You’re not rushed, and guides take the time to chat about the local environment, answer questions, and even offer coffee and chocolates—small gestures that elevate the experience.
