Thinking about experiencing the magic of Tenerife’s evening skies? This Sunset and Stars tour offers a chance to enjoy a beautiful sunset, then look through powerful telescopes at the night sky. While it’s quite popular and generally well-reviewed, it’s worth knowing what to expect before booking.
What we really like about this experience is the ease of transport — no worries about organizing your own car or navigating tricky parking — and the fact that you get expert guidance combined with the chance to see some stunning celestial sights. It’s a more relaxed way to appreciate Tenerife’s natural beauty, especially if you’re into astronomy or just want an beautifully memorable evening.
On the flip side, one thing to consider is that weather and conditions can affect what you see. Some reviews mention that the views might be limited if the skies are cloudy or the moon is too bright. Also, this tour tends to attract a decent group size, which might take away some of the intimacy you’d get in a smaller, private experience.
On a positive note we were picked up from our hotel. On a negative note what we thought was going to be a smaller more intimate trip ended up being lots of smallish groups joined in together, firstly to view the sunset, which was great but way too busy at our public viewpoint. We then moved up mount Teide to less than 2000m to star gaze and have planets and stars pointed out and explained. Our two guides Jaime and Filipe were extremely knowledgeable, but the whole experience felt a little uncoordinated. We also got the impression that we would be travelling nearer to the 3000m summit of Teide.
You need very, very warm clothes!!!😁 It's a wonderful experience!! Many thanks for the good explanations from Phil!!
Such a great experience, the sights, sunset and stars were amazing. The tour guides were so accommodating and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend and return myself too.
This tour works best for travelers who love nature, enjoy a glass of bubbly, and are curious about the stars. It’s especially suitable for those who appreciate guided experiences and don’t mind a bit of a chilly evening outside.

What Is the Sunset and Stars at Teide National Park Tour All About?
This tour is designed to give you a memorable evening in Tenerife, combining the beauty of a sunset with the wonder of star gazing. It’s a great way to enjoy some of the island’s most scenic spots while learning about the cosmos from guides. The experience is around 4 and a half hours long, and it includes transport, telescopes, and a glass of cava to toast the sunset.
What makes it stand out is the seamless transportation. Instead of figuring out how to get to Teide National Park or managing parking, you’re picked up from your hotel or a nearby point. This means you can sit back and soak in the views without stressing about logistics.
Once at the first viewpoint, you’ll witness a stunning sunset with La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro in the background. It’s a postcard-perfect moment, and the glass of cava is the perfect way to celebrate it.
The transfer was spotless. Sunset and cava were great! The guides had a lot of knowledge of astrology. It was cold but the organizers were well prepared, and we borrowed the worm jackets to enjoy the evening( we had warm clothes but not warm enough). The lowlight of the trip was the location of the stargazing ( parking spot) We expected to see at lot of stars trough 2 of the telescope’s, but we used the telescopes only 5 times in 3 hours time. For the price of 60€ each, it seemed to expensive.
An amazing experience, highly recommended! I spent a long time comparing the different companies offering this experience and am so glad I chose this one. The minibus pickup was on time and with only one other couple the journey nice and quick, we met with the rest of the group a the meeting point. They contacted on the day via WhatsApp to give an accurate pickup time. Although it was too cloudy for a clear sunset, when went higher to the stargazing point, the colours were amazing! As it darkened and the stars were beautifully clear, I was blown away by the knowledge of our fantastic guides, Jaime and the friendly Australian (sorry I can't remember his name!)
Absolutely amazing evening. A lot of money for what it was but worth it. Jaime was very knowledgeable about the stars etc and was able to answer questions fully.
After sunset, the tour moves to a designated star viewing spot in Teide National Park, where high-quality telescopes are set up. Here, you’ll have the chance to look at the Moon, planets like Mercury and Venus, and star clusters such as the Pleiades. Guides use laser pointers and provide explanations, making it accessible whether you’re a newbie or already familiar with astronomy.

The Itinerary: From Sunset to Stellar Skies

The journey starts with your pickup from your accommodation in the south of Tenerife. The transport is air-conditioned and comfortable, and group sizes are generally kept manageable (up to 20 travelers). Expect a scenic drive up into the mountainous areas, where the air is cooler and clearer, ideal for star gazing.
Your first stop is a viewpoint where you’ll watch the sunset. Here, you can enjoy your glass of cava as the sky shifts colors and the islands of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro appear in the distance. Several reviewers mention this moment as unforgettable — a perfect blend of natural beauty and relaxation.
One guest noted, “You need very, very warm clothes!!! It’s a wonderful experience!!” so be prepared for the cooler evening air.
There are several companies who do these trips and we chose this one based on viator reviews. Pick up was on time at San Blas but had to go through heavy traffic into Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas for further pick ups which made it a long journey. We were left standing around at the sunset viewpoint when unfortunately due to cloud, it was clear there was no prospect of seeing the sunset. Another tour arrived and we listened in to their guide's interesting commentary on history of area and surrounding scenery. We felt our trip could have been enhanced if something similar was included in it. We then travelled higher up the mountain and 2 telescopes were set up in small off road ar…
Great experience and great people with a real passion for their job! Thank you Mike, Danny and Steve!
Great trip. Mike did a great job of communicating pick up details and was very helpful throughout, pointing out views and ensuring all guests were comfortable. Although the near full moon limited our star views, the team made sure we had plenty of interesting sights.
Once the sun dips below the horizon, the tour moves to another viewpoint, this time inside Teide National Park, where the star gazing begins. The setup involves a 12-inch Dobsonian telescope, which provides sharp views of the sky’s brightest objects. Expect to see the Moon, planets, nebulae, and star clusters, depending on the time of year and sky conditions.
Guides will point out constellations using laser pointers, and they’ll explain what you’re observing, which is especially helpful if you’re new to astronomy.
Guests also mention that photos are taken using astrophotography techniques and shared online afterward, which adds a nice personal touch to the experience. While the high-resolution photos aren’t included, you’ll get a memorable snapshot under the stars.
The Guides and Group Atmosphere

Reviews consistently praise the guides for their knowledge and friendly manner. Guests have highlighted guides like Daniel, Steve, Alessandro, and others for their passion and clear explanations. Many say the guides went above and beyond, making the experience both educational and fun.
Smooth booking process with Viator. Great communication with tour operator. On time pick up in comfy SUV. Friendly helpful driver. The guide was very knowledgeable explaining what we could see when using the telescopes even for novices like me.
Amazing views, enthusiastic guides who are extremely knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this experience
This tour was one of the most memorable experiences in our trip. Danielle and Stephen were very informative amd amswered all questions. Pick up was on time and the cava during sunset was amazing. Highly reccomend to bring warm clothes though 🙂
Group size varies but generally stays within a comfortable range. Some reviews mention around 25-30 people, split into smaller groups to make star viewing manageable. That said, larger groups can sometimes mean more waiting or a slightly less intimate vibe, especially at crowded viewpoints.
The tour is suitable for most people, but some reviews mention that if you’re traveling with young children or have mobility issues, you should check with the operator first. There are seats for children over 6-7 years old, and the benefits of the guided transport mean you won’t need to worry about long walks or navigating narrow roads yourself.
The Experience: From Sunset to Stargazing
The sunset portion is often described as magical. Guests love the panoramic views and the chance to toast with cava as the sky turns into a canvas of oranges and pinks. It’s a serene moment that sets the tone for the evening.
Post-sunset, the star gazing is what makes this tour special. The telescopes reveal crisp images of planets, the Moon, and nebulae, and guides walk you through the Greek mythology behind constellations. Several reviews mention how knowledgeable and enthusiastic the guides are, which enhances the experience.
We had a fantastic time last night on our Sunset and Stars tour. The team kindly rearranged our tour for us as the weather would have prevented us from seeing anything on the night of our initial booking. All 3 guides were very passionate and knowledgeable. They all explained the different things in the sky and offered NASA style photos of each of the things we saw through the telescope. Having our photo taken under the stars was a lovely bonus/souvenir. Convenient and friendly pick up/drop off service from Mike. Great experience overall, would definitely reccomend!
The whole trip was amazing with fantastic commentary, friendly, knowledgable guides. Seeing the Milky Way and Saturn was a real highlight! Recommend to all.
It was one of the many tours and experiences that we did during our stay in Tenerife as a family. Without a doubt, I would say that it was my PERSONAL FAVOURITE tour of all! After a pick up at the hotel we drove to a viewing point to observe a stunning sunset and then drove further up into Teide National Park where our guides Alessandro and Steven set up the telescopes and the star gazing began. It was so interesting to learn from someone so intelligent with solid astronomy knowledge about the skies and our milky way. We observed many constellations, saw the flickering lights of mercury, venus, different nebula, and OH MY GOODNESS… the moon! You could see every creator through the telescop…
One guest said, “The guides had a lot of knowledge of astrology,” and another called it “an amazing experience.”
Although the quality of star views depends on weather and moon phase—some reviews mention that the moon’s brightness can impact what you see—most travelers report being impressed by what they could observe.
Is it Worth the Price?

At around $70 per person, this tour isn’t exactly cheap, but considering everything included — transport, telescopes, drinks, and expert guidance — many say it’s fair value. Guests appreciate that it’s a hassle-free way to enjoy Teide’s natural beauty at sunset and under the stars without having to organize anything themselves.
Some reviewers admit it’s a bit pricey but still maintain they felt it was worth the cost. For example, one said, “Expensive but worth it,” highlighting that the experience’s quality makes it worthwhile.
Potential Drawbacks to Keep in Mind

While generally positive, a few guests have noted some downsides, such as long waiting times, crowded viewpoints, or the chilly outdoor conditions. One review mentions a less-than-ideal start due to overcrowding and some disorganization, especially because of recent forest fires limiting access to usual spots.
They also highlight that standing around for a couple of hours can be tiring, especially if you’re not used to outdoor evening activities.
Weather is another factor — clouds or a bright moon can limit what you see through the telescopes. Guides are transparent about these limitations and do their best to make the best of the conditions, but it’s good to keep expectations flexible.
Who Is This Tour Best Suited For?

This experience is great for travelers who love nature, enjoy a relaxed evening outdoors, and are curious about astronomy. It’s ideal if you appreciate guided tours with knowledgeable hosts and don’t mind a bit of chilly air in the evening. It’s also a good pick for couples or small groups looking for a memorable shared experience.
While not specifically designed for young children, those over 6-7 years old can usually participate, provided they can sit still for a couple of hours and are comfortable outdoors at night. If you prefer a more private or intimate experience, this tour might feel a little crowded, but most find that the guides do a good job of creating a friendly atmosphere.
