If you’re eyeing a trip to Destin and want to get a taste of local hotspots with a relaxed, fun vibe, the Top Shelf Tikis Crab Island Adventure might just be what you’re looking for.
While I haven’t personally been on this tour, reviews from travelers consistently praise it, giving it a rare top rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It’s clear that for many, this experience hits the sweet spot between adventure, relaxation, and good company.
What I really like about this tour is how it combines a lively social atmosphere with beautiful scenery. The guided captain, who’s often praised for being knowledgeable and friendly, ensures you’re well looked after. Plus, the sandbar setting with its shallow, clear waters makes it easy and safe to wade, swim, or lounge in the sun.
Captain Brad was awesome! It really was a vibe on the Sunset Cruise and I look forward to cruising again with Brad! Thanks so much for the great Captainship!
Great captain (Brad) and first mate! Very accommodating ! There are vendors out at crab island (Chick-fil-A, ice cream, Subway) although no alcohol for sale (FYI bring enough for 3 hours!) paddle boards are provided by the tiki hut but if you would like a blowup tube bring your own. Also don’t forget cash to tip at the end. We happen to be there during seafood fest and parking was a nightmare for some on the boat. Do yourself a favor and just use Lyft (Uber was $10 more!!!) especially if you’re going to be drinking.
Our captain was very good. Played the music we like, provided ice and bottle water and had floats for us to lay in water. He even called the floating restaurants over so we could purchase sandwiches.
An added bonus? The boat itself has a spacious restroom, so you don’t have to worry about comfort or convenience during the trip.
That said, one thing to keep in mind is that alcohol isn’t provided—so if you’re planning to sip on some drinks, you’ll need to bring your own or stick to water. Also, since the tour is capped at 20 participants, it’s not overly crowded but still has enough people to keep the energy lively.
This experience is ideal for those who want a social, fun day out with friends or family, especially if you’re comfortable sharing space with others.
Overall, if your idea of a good time involves sunshine, good company, and gorgeous views, this tour could suit you well. It’s especially good for travelers who enjoy a laid-back vibe with plenty of opportunities to relax and soak up the Florida sun.

What a fun experience thanks to Captain Brad! Not only did he provide us with hours of fun, he recommended great restaurants as well. Next time I am in town, I am rebooking with TopShelf Tikis!

The Value Proposition: Is It Worth It?

At $82 per person, this tour offers a good balance of fun, scenery, and social experience. Considering the small group size and the lively, engaging captain, many think it’s a fair price. The fact that the tour is booked about 32 days in advance indicates a steady demand, which speaks to its popularity.
The crystal-clear waters and relaxed atmosphere are what really stand out, making it a worthwhile splurge if you’re craving a day in the sun with friends or family. The spacious onboard restroom adds comfort that you might not find on all boat tours, especially in this price range.
Who Would Like This Tour?

This trip is best suited for adventurers who enjoy social environments, music, and relaxed outdoor settings. It’s especially good for groups wanting a fun, laid-back day at a popular local spot. If you’re traveling with friends or a small family who appreciates an easy-going, lively atmosphere, this will work well.
However, if you’re looking for a more private or quiet experience, this might not be the best fit. The tour's focus on a shared, social vibe makes it less ideal for those who prefer solitude or a serene, contemplative experience.
Final Thoughts

If you’re heading to Destin and want a fun, social day in shallow, beautiful waters, the Top Shelf Tikis Crab Island Adventure offers a lively, well-reviewed option. Its combination of friendly guides, scenic views, and a comfortable setting makes it stand out. You’ll get to enjoy the iconic Crab Island with plenty of opportunities to swim, relax, and chat with fellow travelers.
On the downside, it’s not a tour for those seeking privacy or a more tranquil experience. Also, since alcohol isn’t included, you’ll want to plan ahead if you’re hoping to sip while you cruise. Still, if lively, scenic, and friendly appeal to you, this trip could be a highlight of your Destin visit.
