4.3(216 reviews)From $80 per person

If you’re dreaming of catching the elusive Northern Lights in Norway, this guided tour in Tromsø might just be a solid choice. We haven’t done it ourselves, but from what travelers say, it offers a mix of comfort, expert guidance, and the chance to see one of nature’s most spectacular displays.

The $84 price tag for a six-hour adventure seems reasonable, especially given what’s included—like thermal suits, a campfire, snacks, and professional photos.

What we really appreciate about this experience is how it combines practical comfort with the thrill of aurora hunting. Plus, the guides seem to go above and beyond to find the best viewing spots, often working around weather unpredictability. On the flip side, one potential downside is that Northern Lights sightings aren’t guaranteed—which is true for any aurora tour.

Our valentines hunt for northern lights was an amazing experience and hello Tromso did amazing job in hunting and chasing the aurora in very difficult weather conditions. Despite the snow they managed to find the best spot 100 km from Tromso and we saw the sky dancing and heaven opened for us. What an incredible experience and special feeling!! Very much recommended!!! Good value for money 👍
Nadine
Fantastic trip and great value. Meeting point was really easy and convenient. Doug and Nickolai were the guides. (apologies if spelt incorrectly) Really enjoyed their commentary on the bus and the information shared, although it was a bit harder to be interactive, I was definitely listening. They tried a few places to find the Aurora before deciding to finally stop and then we just needed patience. We end d up seeing the most beautiful light display. The guides spent the evening taking photos whilst the driver helped prepare snacks and the fire. The only slight disappointment was some people asked for at least 5/6 different poses so at times the aurora intensity faded before everyone had a c…

Incredible! A bit chaotic when we first arrived and it took maybe 25 minutes to get everyone sorted onto the right bus. But once we set off, everything else was immaculate. Our tour and our driver were both amazing and so friendly. The whole tour felt very well planned out and there was no messing around at various spots. We’d drive to a spot, the tour would hop and check the sky, and they’d decide it wasn’t up to scratch and head to the next stop. We ended up “setting up camp” at our third stop of the night and immediately saw really strong Auroras the second we stepped off the bus. Got so many amazing photos and it was really good to be able to get some professional camera photos…

Still, if you’re after a comfy, guided experience with great photo opportunities, this tour is worth considering, especially for those new to Arctic adventures or travelers who want a hassle-free outing.

This tour will suit folks who appreciate structure but also want a cozy, memorable experience. It’s not designed for very young children, but if you’re traveling with teens or adults eager for a chance to see the Lights, this might fit your plans nicely.

Abdi and Nikolai were perfect guides. Nikolai informed us a lot about aurora and took photos of everybody and Abdi was very helpful in alerting us where we should look to see the lights. we got very lucky and saw amazing dancing aurora despite initially having some snow and clouds. Overall, we had an amazing time 😀
Nicole
Great experience! I was worried that it would not be as good given the large trip size, but it was totally fine. Tour made sure everyone got group photos and solo shots + we had a campfire (hot chocolate, sausages (options for vegetarians too). We stopped for the dancing Aurora on the way back and I loved that Hello Tromsø was committed to helping us see the Aurora

Amazing Northen lights tour, with a pair of very knowledgeable tour guides and a very safe and confident driver for our journey. Would definitely consider using these again in the future and highly recommend them to others as well 🤩😊

The Itinerary and Stops

The tour includes a “secret stop,” which could mean anything from a scenic viewpoint to a cozy spot near the water or forest. The itinerary mentions a photo stop, sightseeing, and a scenic drive, which suggests variety in scenery and opportunities for both photos and just soaking in the Arctic tranquility.

There’s also mention of a safety briefing, so you’ll be well-prepared, and the entire route is designed with flexibility in mind, depending on weather and aurora activity.

What You’ll Experience

The core activity is, of course, hunting for the Northern Lights in the Arctic sky. Guides work hard to find locations with the best chances, often traveling away from city lights to improve visibility. The guides are local experts, sharing stories and insights, which adds value beyond just the chase.

You’ll stay warm thanks to thermal suits provided—a big plus, considering the cold can be a barrier for some. The campfire is another highlight, creating an inviting scene for warming up, sharing snacks, and enjoying the peaceful Arctic evening.

I booked this tour on my first night in Tromsø, and it truly set the tone for the rest of the trip. They took us to the most incredible spots to see the Northern Lights, perfectly framed above the fjords. The hot cocoa and campfire were such a cozy touch, and our guides were incredibly friendly and patient throughout the night.

The comfort of having guides who actively search for the best viewing locations, combined with the added perk of professional photos, makes it a strong pick for first-timers or those who simply want a stress-free Arctic adventure.

What the Reviews Say

Many travelers praise the guides and the stunning scenery. One reviewer from Germany highlighted the excellent customer service and the guides’ effort in finding the most promising locations amidst unpredictable weather. A Malaysian traveler appreciated the stories and anecdotes, which made the experience even more engaging.

However, some reviews note that the guide’s experience level varies, with one mention of delays and less-than-ideal equipment like limited chairs, cups, and firewood—though these seem to be minor hiccups rather than deal-breakers.

The unpredictability of Aurora sightings remains a common theme; seeing the Northern Lights is never guaranteed, but the guides’ effort and local knowledge significantly improve your odds.

The trip was fantastic. After having done a previous tour and not having the best luck, we then thought to try another one. This is treated more of a personal trip than the large tour company styles. The guides were so personal, kind, friendly and really wanted the best out of your trip. We howled into the sky to awaken the aurora and lo and behold they found a spot where it was dancing for most of the night. They took some fantastic pictures, we can’t wait to have them emailed to us (they showed us what they looked like). The guides were fantastic photographers, guides, they had great knowledge and the food, drinks and snacks were excellent and complimentary. A fantastic night we will NEV…

The guides were great, very friendly, excited and involved, we had a wonderful NYE out chasing the Northern Lights in the wilderness! Super happy with the pictures and how the evening went. I was particularly happy we drove towards Bardufoss for the Lights, I was really hoping to see that side of Norway. We ended up in an area with lower temperature than Tromsø, I was hoping to experience that so for me it was a plus. Even though of course it was freezing 😆 The best start of year ever 🫶🏻🎇🎆
