Free foreign language worksheets

March 27, 2020 by Gretta Schifano 3 Comments

It’s great to connect with people from different cultures – and I’ve found that learning even a few words of a different language really helps with this. I studied languages throughout my education, and I continue to try to learn key words and phrases when I travel to places where I don’t know the language. I’ve found that if I know how to say anything in the local language – even just ‘hello’ or ‘thank you’ – it makes a real difference to how I’m treated.

Printable language worksheets

I’ve created a series of free printable language worksheets to help and your family to learn how to say a few key words in the local language when you’re travelling. So far I’ve created Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish versions. The language worksheets show the English word, the foreign word and its pronunciation. I’ve kept the list to 10 basic words and phrases because, in my experience both as a language student and as a teacher, I know that 10 is a good number of words to focus on, especially for children. My kids chose the words to include on the list, after much discussion.

I published each of these language worksheets previously at different times, but now I’m putting them together in this post to make it easier for people to find and download them.  Here’s the Spanish language worksheet, to show you the format:

I hope that this is a helpful resource. If you’d like me to create worksheets for any other languages, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

I like that spanish list! Actually I was looking for one couple months back as I was in MExico (Before I had to come back in Canada ’cause of the COVID) – And what’s cool is ad soon as you know the basic, the locals are way more down to help you and be kind with you! This little list can help you way more than you can think!
