If you’re considering this 3-day small-group tour from Glasgow to the Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye, you’re in for an experience filled with breathtaking scenery, fascinating stops, and the kind of comfort that makes long days on the road much more enjoyable.
While we haven’t done this exact trip ourselves, the reviews and itinerary paint a clear picture of what you can expect—and what makes it worth considering.
Two things we really like about this tour are its small-group format—capped at just 16 travelers—for a more personal, less rushed experience, and the comfy Mercedes mini-coach, which promises smooth rides through tough terrains.
My wife and I had a fantastic time on this tour. Our guide, Andrew, was very knowledgeable about Scotland and it's history and we enjoyed his friendly personality. He took us from Glasgow to the beautiful Isle of Skye with several stops along the way. We never felt rushed and was able to explore the stops at our own pace. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking to explore the Isle of Skye.
We loved our tour of Skye! James was such a great tour guide – kept us laughing and made sure to find some hairy coos for me to get a picture with! We had the best weather for October with very little rain so we were able to get a lot of hiking. Skye is so beautiful and it would have been much harder to see on our own. It truly was the highlight of my trip to Scotland.
There are not enough words to express how phenomenal this tour was. Our Tour Guide, George (tall George) was amazing. How can we say he was always on time and kept us informed, when at the same time he was spontaneous. His love of Scotland and the beauty of the land was interwoven with music, dance and humor. Basically at the end of the 3 days we were family and saying goodbye was difficult. We will NEVER forget George and his beautiful country. Every place he took us there was either a story that was mystical or factual, but always entertaining. Because of George, the memories of this trip will always be with us.
A possible drawback is the price—at around $684 per person, it’s not the cheapest option out there, so you’ll want to weigh the cost against the value of seeing Scotland in this intimate way.
This tour is best suited for those who want a well-organized, thoughtful glimpse of Scotland’s rugged beauty without the hassle of planning every detail themselves. If you’re after a comfortable, guided journey that balances sightseeing with some flexibility, this one might be just right.

The Itinerary: Breaking It Down
Day 1: The Highlands’ First Glances
The first day sets the tone with a drive through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Here, we get the lush, rolling scenery that Scotland is famous for. The highlight for many is Glencoe, a mountain pass known for its striking cliffs and history—specifically the infamous 1692 massacre of Clan Macdonald, which adds a layer of somber history to your awe-inspiring surroundings.
Peter the tour guide was an amazing person, really knowledgeable, friendly, kind and also has the ability to make everyone feel confortable. He was also caring and attentive about each one’s needs, he was very helpful all the time. His driving is superb He worked really hard not to miss any of the must sees, besides some additional spots where the landscapes where breathtaking. A very important part of a tour is based on the guide, and he excels by far. His guidance was gentle, properly timed, comprised enough stops for restroom. The beautiful landscapes, the power of nature at its full bloom made Skye and the highlands a tour that should not be missed. Winter is a particularly diff…
Wonderful experience! Make dinner reservations in Portree in advance. And it’s Scotland so be prepared for all weather. Rain boots and umbrellas are a must!
Our driver was knowledgeable, personable and full of Scottish humor. Disappointment is fueled by expectations; we stopped at most of the sites listed on the Viator schedule description; however, we picked this tour because we were interested in seeing Old Man of Storr (which we drove by), Dunvegan Castle (we didn't see at all and the description reads "Any visit to the Isle of Skye is incomplete without savouring the wealth of history and clan legend on offer at award winning Dunvegan Castle") and Neist Point (the one view I was most interested in and we never came close to this stop). The tour offered a great view/tour of Skye, yet passengers need to approach this tour with flexibility – …
We loved the way the guide brought these places to life with stories and insights, making the scenery more meaningful. After a lunch break, you’ll pass Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and see the Five Sisters of Kintail, providing plenty of photo opportunities. The day wraps up with a visit to Eilean Donan Castle, a picture-great fortress that looks like it’s straight out of a fairytale.
This first day is about setting the scene—spectacular landscapes, a dose of history, and a relaxed pace. The included stops are brief enough to keep the day lively but not exhausting, and you’ll get plenty of chances to stretch and take photos.
Day 2: The Magical Isle of Skye
Day two is probably the highlight for most—exploring the Isle of Skye, with its rugged cliffs, fairy-tale landscapes, and iconic rock formations. The first stop is The Old Man of Storr, where a quick photo stop rewards you with sweeping views of jagged rock pinnacles. We appreciated how brief this stop was—long enough for a picture, but not a long hike if you’re pressed for time or energy.
Next, you’ll visit Kilt Rock, offering panoramic views of waterfalls crashing into the sea—a perfect photo op and a reminder of how dramatic Skye’s coastline can be. Portree Harbour is a charming spot to wander, with its colorful houses, lively fishing boats, and scenic harbor setting. It’s a relaxed break in a very picturesque town.
This tour was one of the best parts of our trip to Scotland. Our guide John from Rabbies tours was very personable as well as a wealth of information, played great music, and kept us entertained. There were many stops for short hikes (if you choose to do them), a variety of interesting places to see, and plenty of coffee and bathroom stops. My husband, adult daughter, and I highly recommend this trip. The day we toured the sights on Isle of Skye was rainy but John watched the weather and rearranged our itinerary so we could see the best outdoor scenic spots after the rain stopped. The Rabbies Tour site recommends making a reservation for Portree restaurants as soon as you book the tour and I…
Our guide John was awesome…..smooth drive, knowledgeable , good taste of music and a fantastic person to keep the group engaged all the times. Loved the tour. We are coming again for more, for sure.
Simply fantastic!!!! Our guide Ben is knowledgeable, explaining important history landmarks etc, it was perfect. Fellow tourists were very nice. Enjoyed our trip very much.
One of the standout sites is Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. It’s surrounded by lochs and gardens, with a history stretching back 800 years. Many reviews mention how well the stops are chosen and how guides make these visits more engaging.
The second day is flexible—your guide will tailor the experience based on the weather and your group’s interests, which many reviews praise as a real plus. Whether you want a quick walk to Coral Beach, a visit to a local brewery, or just some quiet time exploring Portree, the day is designed to be customizable.
Day 3: Loch Ness & Return to Glasgow
The final day takes you southward, with a stop at Loch Ness. Here, in addition to sightseeing and maybe a quick cruise (if you decide to pay for it), you get one of the most iconic Scottish sights—Nessie. Several travelers highlight how fun and memorable it is to look for the legendary monster.
After lunch, the journey continues through the Grampian Mountains, passing through Loch Laggan and the historic Blair Castle. The drive back to Glasgow is scenic and relaxed, with regular stops for rest and photos.
Our 3 day trip to Isle of Skye on a Rabbie mini-bus was very enjoyable and comfortable. The scenery was beautiful and our bus driver Allan was fantastic! He was funny, informative and knew when to talk and when to play music. We enjoyed the hiking so much that it would have been great to add more time for hiking. Great trip overall and met some nice people!
George was a fantastic driver. Very knowledgeable and friendly. He worked with me on several occasions to help make this trip successful after I had some personal travel setbacks. He answered every question we asked and provided us with several recommendations and information about the stops we made. The hotel I stayed at was better than its 3 star rating. I had a double bed to myself for the two days I was there and slept easily. The room and bathroom were cleaner than I expected and the breakfast was a decent meal. The restaurant and pub were also very good and I highly recommend getting their Mac & Cheese or any of their several vegan/vegetarian options. Overall the trip was great but bec…
We had a great time. Our tour guide _George was the best. He made the tour interesting and fun. He is very knowledgeable . The sights were beautiful and we were given enough time to enjoy them. Robyn and Denny
What the Accommodation Looks Like
Your two nights are spent in en-suite rooms at a 3-star hotel or B&B in Portree (or Broadford in winter months). Reviewers have commented on the clean, comfortable rooms and the delicious breakfast options. The B&Bs tend to be on the outskirts, so expect a 20-30 minute walk into town, but most guests find this adds to the cozy, local feel.
Transportation and Comfort: Why It Matters
Traveling in a Mercedes mini-coach with only 16 people means you’re not packed in like sardines but still traveling efficiently through narrow Highland roads. Many reviews mention how smooth and comfortable the ride is, even on windy mountain passes. The vehicle has grab handles and non-slip steps for safety and ease of boarding.
Keep in mind, there’s no onboard restroom, so the group makes regular stops for bathroom breaks. This setup works well for most, and the guide typically plans breaks around the day’s itinerary.
Price and Value: Is It Justified?
At $684 per person, this tour isn’t cheap, but for what it includes—top-notch transport, two nights’ accommodation, breakfast, and guided visits—it offers good value. Travelers who love a guided approach tend to agree that the guides, scenic stops, and personal touches make this a worthwhile investment.
Our tour was led by Ian who provided insightful commentary about the history, landscape, culture and humor of Scotland. Ian strove to meet the requests of all participants and demonstrated great flexibility when weather prevented some planned visits. In one instance, due to inclement weather, he was able to secure a whisky tasting to replace a visit to an outdoor area we were all impressed and satisfied. All three members of our family were thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the tour and the clear effort to make this a memorable part of our visit to Scotland.
If you travel to Scotland, you MUST visit the Isle of Skye…and what better way to do this than with a private tour guide who takes care of all the details!!! We booked through Viator, which booked us with Rabbis. Our guide was John….very knowledgeable, professional, music connoisseur, and all around witty! My husband and I are already planning to tour Ireland next year and we will definitely be booking this through Viator and Rabbis. We literally showed up at the bus on day 1 and did not have to worry about ANYTHING…John took care of all the details. The money paid is very very very much worth the it!!! I am a very experienced global traveler and have high expectations….my expec…
