While I haven’t taken this exact trip myself, plenty of travelers have raved about its highlights and the authentic experiences it offers.

Plus, the chance to visit historic monasteries such as Cozia and Curtea de Arge adds a spiritual and artistic layer to the adventure. Our three days in Transylvania with Matthew were fantastic. It was a small group—just the two of us and another couple—which made the experience even more enjoyable. Our guide was an excellent driver, and we felt safe and well taken care of throughout the trip. We saw some incredible sights just off the side of the road, and the forests were absolutely stunning. The castles we visited were impressive, and the towns of Sibiu and Brașov were really charming and full of character. Both hotels we stayed in were perfect—not too big, with very good breakfasts. Overall, the trip was great value, and we’re very happy with our choice.

Went to some very interesting sites. Long days in vehicle and standing in queues to use restrooms and get into the Venues (Peles & Bran castle). Tour guide could have offered more information in regards to sites that were passed in the bus. Only commented on sites when we arrived at them. Disappointed we were not taken to Curtea de Argeş and no explanation given. Our tour was done in reverse as it left on a Sunday so possibly this is the reason but on the last day we were back in Bucharest by 2pm with 5 hours drive time and only one 25 min stop at Bierten, Brasov and Sibui not to be missed if visiting the area. Would recommend a 2 or 3 day tour to cover the area. Both Hotels were of a high …

One thing to keep in mind is that this trip can feel quite rushed—there's a lot packed into just three days. So, if you're someone who prefers to travel at a more relaxed pace, this might be a bit intense. That said, it's an excellent choice if you want a comprehensive snapshot of Transylvania's most iconic sights in a short amount of time.

This tour works best for history buffs, architecture lovers, or anyone eager to soak up the legendary atmosphere of Transylvania—and it’s particularly suited for those who enjoy guided experiences that cover a lot of ground efficiently.

3-Day Medieval Transylvania Package Tour - What You Can Expect From This Tour

This 3-day adventure offers a solid overview of some of Romania's most famous medieval landmarks, all wrapped in an organized, comfortable package. The tour is designed for travelers who want a mix of sightseeing, culture, and a taste of legend—and you’ll be traveling with a small group, which helps keep things intimate and flexible.

Day 1: From Bucharest into the Heart of Transylvania

Your journey kicks off with a pick-up from Bucharest, heading northwest through picturesque Romanian landscapes. The first stops are the Moorish Monastery of Curtea de Arge and Cozia Monastery. These sites are more than just religious spaces; they’re cultural treasures. Built in 1514 by Prince Neagoe Basarab, the Moorish Monastery shows a unique blend of architectural influences, while Cozia is renowned for its medieval art.

After enjoying these historical sites, you'll stop for a traditional Romanian lunch — a chance to taste authentic local cuisine. Then, the tour continues to Sibiu, a city long celebrated for its beauty and history. Once the capital of Transylvania, Sibiu’s Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets, medieval walls, and Gothic architecture. You'll explore on foot, soaking in sights like the Brukenthal Palace and the iconic Council Tower. Many reviews emphasize the town’s beauty, with one reviewer noting it as "one of the most beautiful towns in Romania."

In the evening, you'll enjoy a traditional Romanian dinner and settle into a centrally located hotel, which offers a cozy base for the night.

Day 2: Medieval Fortresses and the Birthplace of Transylvania

After breakfast, the adventure moves to Biertan, home to one of the most impressive Saxon fortified churches in the region. Built between 1490 and 1524, this church's walls are a testament to the defensive needs of medieval communities and their faith. The fortified church is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, and many travelers find it a fascinating glimpse into medieval life.

Next, you'll visit Sighisoara, the only inhabited medieval citadel in Europe still inhabited today. The city’s colorful houses and narrow streets seem frozen in time. Walking up the hill, you'll reach the Clock Tower, which offers sweeping views of the town's rooftops. One traveler shared that they loved the charm of Sighisoara and appreciated the opportunity to explore its historic streets.

Later, the tour heads to Brasov, a city surrounded by the Carpathian mountains. Known for its Gothic architecture, including the Black Church (built in 1383), Brasov’s streets are lined with history and character. You’ll walk through the medieval center, including the narrowest street in Romania, a fun and quirky highlight. The guide’s reviews indicate they have a knack for showing travelers local gems and storytelling that brings the city alive.

Day 3: Castles, Mountains, and Legends

The final day in Brasov begins with a visit to the Black Church, a stunning Gothic structure with a fascinating history. Then, the tour takes you to Bran Castle, often called Dracula's Castle, perched on the Transylvanian border. Whether you're a Bram Stoker fan or just curious about the legend, exploring this fortress is a highlight. Many reviews describe it as a must-see, with some visitors noting the museum and grounds are well worth the visit, even if the legends are more folklore than fact.

After lunch, you'll head to Sinaia, known as the “Pearl of the Carpathians.” Here, you'll visit Pele Castle, built between 1875 and 1914 by King Carol I. It’s a Neo-Renaissance masterpiece, and many find it as stunning as the castles in France or Germany. The nearby Sinaia Monastery, founded in the 17th century, offers a peaceful end to a busy trip.

You’ll conclude the tour by driving back to Bucharest, tired but full of stories and new impressions.
