Anza was great. She's not born and bred in Bordeaux but she knows her stuff and she is sooo lovely. We talked about sooo many things and because it was only the 2 of us with her we could chat and ask about so many things. The tour is just the right amount of time, the wine was great, company was great and the vendors provided delicious morsels. Well worth it if your are a small group. Not sure how it would be if it was a larger one. Thanks Anza and Original Food Tours.

The tour was in old town, specifically the market area. The area is unique and the aromas of fresh foods was delightful since this was a food and wine tour. All areas we visited, our hosts only enhanced the tour by their charm and knowledge. Anza was an amazing guide. She was fun, and most of all she knew her craft!

Visiting the Marche de Capucins. Wonderful market. Everywhere we stored the vendors were great. Outside , the Boulangerie we visited had great breads.

Second, the diverse tastings across markets, wine bars, and specialty shops, showcasing Bordeaux’s best local flavors, are appealing. That said, a potential hiccup is the cancellation risk, which has affected some travelers during less stable times.

This tour tends to suit those who love gastronomy, local culture, and intimate group settings. If you’re eager to explore Bordeaux’s historic center while sampling regional delicacies and wines, you’ll likely find this a valuable and enjoyable experience.

Guess you didn’t know, Lucy was in an accident and tour was understandably canceled. Waiting for refund. Other tours with your group have been fine.

It was Labour Day and we were expecting the worst. But this young lady turned up with her jokes, effervescent behaviour- all leading up to a fun 2 hours. I will however give her a feedback – we should have snacked the market. It looked so good. Suggest we do the right seeing first and the food market last

The title of the activity does not match what we experienced. There was no local food tasting at the market, we did go to a restaurant which did not seem happy to have us there to have 1 appetizer dish, we had 1 tasting of a local rose wine, nothing else was offered and it was done it seemed as a last minute surprise to the wine shop personnel. Our guide was delightful so none of the above is on her but I think that the description of the activity should be more realistic, perhaps tasting local foods at the beautiful market, a more diverse wine tasting of Bordeaux offerings, etc.

Walking Through Vieux Bordeaux

Your stroll will take you through the vibrant streets and alleys of Bordeaux’s old town, with its cobblestones, historic facades, and lively markets. The tour emphasizes local food scenes, with stops at markets and specialty shops where vendors display their freshest produce and regional products.

Based on reviews, guides like Anza and Margot are praised for their warmth, knowledge, and ability to connect. One reviewer mentioned, “Anza was great. She’s not born and bred in Bordeaux but she knows her stuff and she is sooo lovely.” These guides often build relationships with local vendors, meaning you’ll get honest, authentic tastings and insights.

Market and Specialty Store Tastings

The core of this experience is the variety of tastings. You can expect to sample 6 to 8 different items, including artisan cheeses, charcuterie, regional sweets like canelé pastries, and local chocolates such as Bouchon de Bordeaux. The tour also includes a curated wine tasting—reds and whites from Bordeaux—which are selected to give you a sense of regional terroir.

One more thing to appreciate here: the quality of the tastings. Travelers mention that the portions are generous enough to leave you full, and the wines are described as delicious and well-chosen. Margot, one guide, is noted for her ability to tailor the experience, making the wine and food feel special without feeling rushed.

Margot was excellent! We tried a variety of local food and stopped at a well-curated wine shop. Margot clearly has solid relationships with each of the shop/stand workers that we went to, and she also knew so much about regional history and the background of all the food we tried. Absolutely recommend her!

The good: The Basque region was a major focal point of the tour, much more so than what I was expecting given we were in Bordeaux. The food was very unique to this region and I don't think I would have tried some of the items without having the guide explain and push to try new things. The guide was very knowledgable. Things to be aware of: Overall it was a good experience, I just wish I would have dressed more warmly given the time of year and that we were not inside as much as I thought we would be. So dress as if you will be outside and standing for most of the tour and knowing it gets very windy. I also wish I would have also known more French than I did. Even though the tour was in En…

We had originally signed up for the morning tour, but were shifted to a 4:00pm start due to guide availability. Steph was knowledgeable regarding the foods and wines of Bordeaux, and a very engaging host. He spoke of sustainability, the traditional foods and history of the region, and current trends. Our 10 tasting stops included chocolates, cannell’s, cheeses, pastries, salamis and cured meats, olive oils, wines and more. All in all it was an incredible introduction into the foods and wines of Bordeaux. We would highly recommend this tour!

Highlights of the Stops

One quoted review states, “The aromas of fresh foods was delightful since this was a food and wine tour.”

  • Specialty Shops: You might find yourself in cozy boutiques and gourmet stores, where your guide can share stories about the products and their origins.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour guide’s (Margot) friendliness and knowledge of local history and the food.
Christina R
I really enjoyed this tour. I would definitely recommend skipping breakfast and bringing your appetite, because although the portions may seem small, I promise if you try a bit of everything you will be full by the end. Margot was very knowledgeable and easygoing. All the places we went to were high quality and delicious (my favorites were the canele and the cheese). You won't be disappointed!

Another point to keep in mind is the timing and weather. The tour runs mostly outdoors, so good footwear is advised, and dress appropriately for the season, especially since some areas can be windy or chilly.
