Be sure to bring a water bottle if you head on to Pompeii. It was insanely hot in 2019. I also brought a snack banana, apple and an egg… despite the amazing lunch the fruit helped with my heat induced headache. Must wear comfortable shoes! I chose driving moccasins because I wanted my Italy photos to look as nice as the places I visited. I absolutely loved the guides, both the driver and the Pompeii guide. It was a good day. This time around I’m going to book tours around the coast since I’m “training” from Rome to Sorrento then Sorrento to Florence. I’ve enjoyed Viator tours in the States but I do love my Italy 🙂

Roberto was a total gentleman, great driver and very helpful guide. He arranged for a nice lunch in Positano and despite some terrible weather during the drive and poor traffic conditions he was super smooth and always made us feel safe. Positano is typical Amalfi coast and there are other places to preference but if it’s your thing it’s fine. Pompei was amazing. The local archaeologist guide was an absolute treat, hilarious, informative and made the time fly by. Overall, two great visits but a long day in the car. If you want do it in a day though, this is the way to do it.

Positano is simply amazing. We had so much fun strolling the shops and the beach. Pompeii was amazing and Ciro, our guide, was simply fantastic. He had so much knowledge, it was priceless.

However, it’s not without considerations—most notably the long driving hours, which could be tiring for some. Still, if you’re comfortable with a full day and want to maximize your time, this tour can be a great way to tick off multiple highlights without the stress of self-organizing.

This kind of trip suits travelers who love a mix of history, stunning scenery, and a bit of leisure, especially if you’re okay with the long haul to see these icons.

The guided tour of Pompeii is designed for maximum insight, with reviews praising guides like Ciro for their in-depth knowledge. One reviewer noted, “Ciro, our guide, was simply fantastic. He had so much knowledge, it was priceless.” The two-hour tour includes skip-the-line tickets, which saves you from waiting in long queues and lets you focus on the experience.

The highlight for many is the afternoon in Positano. You’ll have around three hours to wander its charming streets, browse boutique shops, and enjoy the iconic pastel-colored houses that tumble down the hillside. In summer, this includes time for a swim at the beach, which many reviews describe as a relaxing, picture-perfect moment.

Roberto shepherded our group of seven in an unforgettable experience — and ensured the aunties were well cared for when mobility challenges threatened to derail their participation. The day was long but the tour well-orchestrated and we were able to see all the sites we wished to visit. Our memories of the day are priceless!

Beautiful experience. Responsive tour operator connected prior to the tour on phone and email. Pickup at our home, clean Mercedes mini van, friendly English speaking driver – Anna was excellent! Shared a lot of fun facts and very patient with our questions on landmarks along the way. Amalfi, Positano were beautiful – we had a little over an hour at each place, wish we had planned to stay overnight at each of those places, and explored more. Ferry ride to Positano was scenic!!. Guide in Pompeii -Cero – was excellent!! Started at 6:30am – back by 7:30pm – door-to-door! Highly recommend for a convenient and hassle-free day trip from Rome!!

Without a doubt, it was Pompeii. Ciro was a great tour guide! He gets 5+ stars. Boat ride only had indoor seating available due to full boat with dirty windows and it ruined the beautiful scenery. Got no time in Positano, very little instruction on meeting point and there was about 1,000 stairs up the mountain. There was a problem withthe dates stamped on our boat tickets and theylet part of the family board and sent the rest to get revised tickets. The boat was leaving as we were coming back with the revised tickets. They were going to split the family up over what was clearly a problem on the tour’s end. If not for Pompeii, this toir would get 0 stars for the money paid vs what you get.

You might also want to stop for lunch—many guests recommend trying the local restaurants with views, though it’s at your own expense.

Before heading back to Rome, the tour stops at several scenic viewpoints along the Amalfi Coast. These quick photo ops are well-loved, offering spectacular panoramic views of the cliffs and sea. The drive back is about two hours, giving you time to unwind and reflect on the day.
