If you’re dreaming of experiencing Italy’s breathtaking Amalfi Coast from the water, this small-group boat tour from Sorrento might just catch your eye. It’s a popular choice for travelers wanting to see the coast’s iconic towns—Positano, Amalfi, and more—from a different perspective.
What we really like about this tour? First, the small group size makes it feel intimate and personalized. Second, the combination of sightseeing, swimming opportunities, and delicious local treats keeps things engaging. But, like any experience, it’s not perfect—some reviews mention that the boat isn’t always as luxe as expected, and the guides’ level of commentary can vary.
This tour is probably best suited for those who value a relaxed pace, enjoy being on the water, and want a taste of the coast’s top highlights without feeling rushed. If you’re after a more detailed or luxurious experience, you might want to compare it with other options. But if a fun, scenic day on the sea sounds appealing, keep reading—we’ve got all the details.
Bruno and Dario were fantastic, and we really enjoyed our time on board the Lady L! Bruno even took us to a boat access only beach club for lunch which wasn’t initially on our itinerary. Thank you for a great experience! Unfortunately the tour was tarnished by an incredibly unorganised tour company and poor communication. Our tour was meant to depart at 8:30am and we ended up leaving around 9:45am. This left us waiting for over an hour on the port, if you include the fact we arrived early for check in as requested. The receptionist was not even there yet until 8:20am, despite the email asking to arrive a minimum of 15mins prior to the tour. There is also an extra administration fee to be p…
What a great way to see the Amalfi Coast — by water in a small group. We did have plenty of time at Amalfi (hour with tons of people) and Positano (also hour). We were unable to snorkel because the anchor needed repair, but the crew made it up by adding on a few extra scenic views.
I am giving this excursion three stars but want to give it just one or none. The only thing saving it was the wonderful job our boat captain, Francisco, and our tour guide in board, Sara, did and the service they provided. As for the company themselves and the lead up to the trip, we were not happy with. The communication with the company was subpar to say the least. We had a 9:00 am tour so we also scheduled a 7:00 pm private transfer to our next hotel. We also paid extra for pickup service for the excursion from and to our hotel. At 1:00 am the morning of the excursion, we received a text saying our driver would pick us up at 10:00 am. We were confused since our tour started at 9:00 am. Af…

How the Day Unfolds: The Itinerary in Detail

This tour promises to take you through some of the most famous sights along the Amalfi Coast, all from the comfort of a boat. Here’s what you can expect, based on the itinerary and reviews.
Amazing day on the boat and seeing the coast! Had so much fun with everyone on board and was happy to have the time in Positano and Amalfi. The day was spread out perfectly, giving the perfect amount of time on the boat and off the boat. Would recommend this to anyone staying in Sorrento as it’s easy access to the port you depart from!
Fantastic tour!!! Worth every penny!!! Our guide was Franchesco and he was great with my family as well as everyone else on board!! Small group so it was very personal!!! Would highly recommend!!
The coastline was beautiful and the crew was very nice! Although we were expecting more stops and a longer tour based on the itinerary.
Meet in Sorrento
The adventure begins in Sorrento’s harbor, where the crew is waiting to welcome you aboard. Many reviews highlight how easy it is to find the meeting point, and the staff often go out of their way to support guests with boarding.
First Stops: Amalfi and the Duomo di Sant’Andrea
Your boat first heads towards Amalfi, famous for its stunning cathedral, the Duomo di Sant’Andrea — a highlight when seen from the water. You get about 1 hour 30 minutes ashore to explore or relax. Travelers love the central location, and reviews mention how the view from the boat is a great way to appreciate the town’s architecture and charm.
Emerald Grotto (Grotta dello Smeraldo)
Next, the boat approaches the Emerald Grotto, a famous cave just between Amalfi and Positano. The interior glows with a shimmering emerald green, especially when sunlight hits the water. It’s a quick 15-minute stop, and while access to the grotto costs extra (€8), many find the view worthwhile.
Some reviews mention that the crew might not always be as informative here, with one guest noting, “Our guide never mentioned where it was or that it was an option to stop,” which can be a missed opportunity if you’re interested in the details.
The crew were very friendly and attentive and the people we travelled with were lovely!! After wandering around Amalfi and Positano with their lovely bars and restaurants a refreshing dip from the back of the boat was wonderful, followed by a lovely limoncello spritz. I loved this trip ❤️
Today was fantastic. Great captain and mate with lots of information in the area, adapted to the wants of the mixed group, very proficient at navigating the waters, boat traffic we felt ultra safe and he minimized the affects of the swell. We really found not have asked for more.
Remarkable experience to be out on the water for the day. Alessandro our captain was excellent. I'm sorry we didn't get the other person's name, but she was lovely. Had lots of time at both Amalfi and Positano, to explore. Had 2 opportunities to swim off of the boat. Stopped at the Smeraldo Grotto. Drinks, lunch sandwich and Limoncello were all provided. The boat was quite new, comfortable and we had the perfect tour size of 12. A definite highlight of our time on the Amalfi coast.

Positano: Fornillo Beach and Marina Grande
Leaving Amalfi behind, the boat arrives in Positano, arguably the most photogenic town along the coast. You’ll have around 2 hours ashore—enough time to browse chic boutiques, snap photos, or enjoy a quick coffee. Many reviews express how special this town feels, and the water clarity makes for lovely swimming if the weather permits.
You might find that the boat’s snorkeling gear is a bonus, though some reviews note the crew’s shyness and limited commentary here.
Marina del Cantone and Cala di Mitigliano
The tour offers a couple of scenic stops along the Sorrento Peninsula, including Marina del Cantone, renowned for its famous restaurants and pasta origins—like spaghetti alla nerano—plus Cala di Mitigliano, a stunning cove great for quick photos or a dip if conditions allow.
Sorrento and the Final Stops
Back in Sorrento, your boat will cruise past the Fiord of Crapolla—the natural wonder created by a torrent—and the Galli Islands, a trio of islets that sit just off Positano, adding to the scenic splendor. You’ll finish where you started, after roughly 8 hours, feeling like you’ve had a full day of coast and sea.
Beautiful day. Captain and crew made us feel nice……though no safety guidelines were given. Life vests? Were they even on boat?
A great way to see the coast. Two nice stops in Amalfi and Positano with time enough to do a little exploring. Inspite of them providing a sandwich most of us stopped at a restaurant and bought lunch. Seas were rough so no stopping to swim. We also did driving tour and both offerings were worthwhile.
The tour stated it included a limoncello drink and snacks but neither were served. Very disappointing as we later learned this area is know for its limoncello liquor.
The Experience: What Travelers Say
Many reviews highlight the knowledgeable and friendly crew, describing them as attentive and accommodating. One reviewer raved, “Our captain Giuseppe and first mate Bruno were amazing guides,” emphasizing the personal touch. Guests also appreciate the gorgeous views, with multiple people noting that seeing Amalfi and Positano from the water offers a fresh perspective impossible from land.
However, some reviews point out inconsistencies. A common complaint was about the boat’s condition—one guest described it as an “old fishing boat” not matching the photos, with engine noise making conversation difficult. Others felt the service was a bit underwhelming, especially regarding the limoncello, which was not served as promised in some cases.
The timing seems well-managed, with most guests finding the stops ample for exploring towns and enjoying swimming. Still, a few mention that they wished for more stops or longer exploration time, depending on individual expectations.
Who Should Consider This Tour?

If you love being on the water and want to experience the Amalfi Coast’s highlights without the hassle of land transport, this trip offers a lovely day out. It’s particularly suited for travelers who appreciate a small, intimate group—most bookings cap at 12 people—and enjoy a relaxed pace, with plenty of opportunities to swim, snap photos, and enjoy local flavors.
Beautiful scenery. Just enough time at all stops. Great guys who ran this. The Limonchello was fab! Really ended and felt well looked after.
This gave a stunning perspective of the Amalfi Coast. There were just 10 people in total, so it was more tailored to each individual. The tour guide was very courteous and polite however did not speak English very well. Overall, I would recommend this tour and a special thank you to Viator. A great way to see the Amalfi Coast.
Most scenic views of all the Amalfi coast. The guides were knowledgeable, safe, caring, professional and enthusiastic! Best tour yet in Europe
This experience is not for you if you’re seeking luxury accommodations onboard or highly detailed guided commentary. Some guests mention that the guides’ explanations may feel limited, and boat quality can vary. Also, if you’re hoping for a luxury yacht experience, this might not match those expectations.
Final Thoughts

All in all, this Amalfi Coast small group boat tour offers a solid way to enjoy some of Italy's most iconic coastal scenery. The value for money is good, especially considering the included lunch and drinks, and the small group setting makes for a personal, relaxed day.
It’s particularly ideal if you want a balanced mix of sightseeing, swimming, and local flavor without the fuss of larger tour groups or expensive private charters. However, keep in mind that the boat’s condition and commentary quality can fluctuate—some guests describe their experience as “amazing,” while others felt it was a bit underwhelming.
If you’re prepared for a casual, scenic adventure with friendly crew and don’t mind a few minor hiccups, this tour could be a highlight of your trip to the Amalfi Coast.
