This tour promises a deep dive into the biblical significance of Ephesus, with visits to sites like St. Mary’s House, the Basilica of St. John, and the Temple of Artemis, all wrapped up in a private, personalized setting.
One of the things we love about this experience is how it balances biblical insights with archaeological exploration. The guides are noted for their biblical knowledge and their ability to make the history come alive. Plus, including a traditional Turkish lunch makes it easier to enjoy the day without worrying about finding a good place to eat.
We booked this tour because my mother has mobility issues and I was afraid the cruise ship tour would go too fast for her. I’m so glad I did!! Our guide, Melih, was waiting for us just outside the customs building as promised. After a short walk to the vehicle, he proceeded to give a knowledgeable and interesting narrative of Ephesus now and from long ago. The tour lasted approx 6 hours We visited Mary’s house, Ephesus, and the temple of Dianna. Then we had a delicious lunch and watched a rug-making demonstration. The rug salesman was friendly and not too pushy. We had the option of visiting a local ceramics workshop and a local leather workshop. We chose the ceramics shop and were impr…
We enjoyed learning the history of the city of Ephesus and seeing Mary's House. Our tour guide Okaff was wonderful as well as the lunch. Okaff gave us valuable advice regarding the vendors. We were taken to a beautiful leather shop where we saw a fashionshow. Don't feel obligated to make a purchase.
Ephesus was one stop on our cruise and by far our favorite! Cengis was not your average tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. He made Ephesus come alive for us. We could really imagine Paul living and working in this city. We also saw many other sites. Finally Cengis took us to Nakkaş Rugs where we learned how hand knotted Turkish rugs are made. It was really interesting and amazing. They are made of both silk and wool and are works of art. I highly recommend this tour!
Another plus is the private nature of the tour, which means you get a tailored experience without the crowded feel of larger group excursions.
However, a consideration to keep in mind is the moderate physical activity involved. While the tour is designed to be accessible, you’ll be walking around uneven grounds, and some sites require a bit of stamina. This tour is best suited for travelers who are comfortable with some walking and who want a more intimate and educational journey into Ephesus’ biblical past.
Overall, if you’re a history buff, a Christian pilgrim, or simply a curious traveler wanting a well-rounded, personable experience, this private tour could be a perfect fit. It offers a great way to see the key biblical sites with expert guides, all covered in one day.

This was a very informative tour for us. Our guide, Ersan, was extremely knowledgeable in the history of Ephesus and the relation to St. Paul. We learned so much from him. He is easy going and soft spoken. Of course we had to do the the rug tour stop. But to my surprise there was no pressure to purchase!
Cheri C★★★★★My mother and I took this tour as a shore excursion during our Mediterranean cruise. It was high on our list and we were very excited as it was also a part of small scale pilgrimage as we concentrated our experiences on those with a religious background. There were parts of the tour that were absolute highlights and some that were downright bad. So overall, an average/meh score. The sights were on the absolute must do, highlights. Although the first stop was quick, the last home of Mary was peaceful and beautiful. We enjoyed it. The second was Ephesus, and it was fascinating. Lots to take in, from both a religious and historical perspective. But it’s also when the tour started …
Ranie G★★★★★We had a great day touring Ephesus with Cengiz as our guide. He was informative and engaging. We were able to personalize the tour with a stop at traditional Turkish rug making and a mosaic artistry location. We also had a great lunch at a local restaurant. We felt like we were able to see many aspects of Kusadasi as well as ancient Ephesus.
Rich Sites & Stories: From the Temple of Artemis to St. John’s Basilica, each stop offers insight into Ephesus’ religious history.
- Moderate Physical Activity: Expect some walking and uneven terrains—good for active travelers.

The Ancient City of Ephesus

The highlight of the tour is the vast ruins of Ephesus itself. The guides usually spend about two hours here, giving you background on the city’s importance as a major port, commercial hub, and religious center. You’ll see remains of grand structures like the Terrace Houses, the Curetes Street, and the Library of Celsus.
The pick up was seemless anx easy. This was the most amazing tour, worth everything dollar. Perfect length. Wonderful comfortable atmosphere, it's really comfortable car . Selim adjusted our tour so that we didn't run into the big crowds . Our guide was so knowledgeable, took such great care of us, had great knowledge and background of all three of the sites we went to see. We were able to ask questions, and Converse with him, and he was so with the history. I would highly recommend this tour, and Selim as a guide. Also the driver was very safe, courteous as well.
Cem was excellent. Perfect English but gave us a flavor of Turkey. His understanding of Turkish customs and ability to communicate made this easily our favorite tour!
Selinay was fantastic. She was on time and was efficient in getting us out of the cruise port and to the van. She was extremely knowledgeable, accommodating, and professional. She had such knowledge on the history and culture and was really able to answer all of our questions. She gave us options throughout the day on what we’d like to do on our tour, the amount of walking required and time commitment involved for us to make a decision. She clearly has a good relationship with all of the places we visited as they knew her and were friendly with her. Some people we were traveling with ended up on a different but similar tour and were not happy. We had the best day with Selinay and really en…
What makes this experience stand out is the focus on the biblical connection. The guide will recount stories from the Book of Revelation, referencing Ephesus as a church community (Rev. 2:1-7).
You’ll get a sense of how the city played a role in early Christianity, especially with the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple’s ruins are nearby, and the stop here is brief but meaningful.
Visiting Virgin Mary’s House

Next, the tour takes you to Meryemana, or the House of Virgin Mary, situated about five miles from Ephesus. This site is of particular interest because many believe Mary spent her last days here, with the house dating back to the 1st century. The site became a pilgrimage destination after its discovery and was even visited by Pope Paul VI in 1967.
The walk around this peaceful spot offers a reflective moment, surrounded by lush mountains and a sense of spiritual history. The reviews repeatedly mention the significance of this visit, with one reviewer noting that “it was claimed that Mary came to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D.”, adding to the emotional weight of the experience.
It was a very extensive tour of the Christian sites as well as ancient Ephesus Archeological site as well. Good walking shoes and sunscreen and hat are all needed. Our guide was very professional and personable. Our driver was exceptionally patient. We enjoyed this tour a great deal.
The carpet shop is high pressure sales to buy a rug. The tour was just an overview of how it related to Paul's journey. The guide let us wander off to look around, but did not get a detailed explanation since she was waiting while we walked around. The food was really good. Transportation and tickets were taken care of, which made things easier for sure
So nice to be able to tour at your own pace. I wanted to do the full experience but needed a few rest stops. No problem on this tour. Ersan was such an amazing guide. He was caring and provided a wealth of biblical information. We could read Bible verses and have discussions about them. We loved everything about this tour. Such a comfortable and clean vehicle for just the two of us. Our driver Eser was very careful and also very caring. I needed some help entering and exiting and he was always there. I was wary of going to a rug demonstration, but this one was interesting, friendly, and low pressure. We also had an enjoyable lunch. It was also very nice to have all the entry tickets included…
Lunch & Cultural Taste

Reviews show that travelers often find the meal tasty and authentic, with some praising the quality and flavors. It’s a good break to relax, refuel, and enjoy a taste of local cuisine.
St. John’s Basilica & Other Sites

Loved our tour guide! This was a great tour, one of the best we had on this trip! My travel mates loved the lunch but me, not so much. It was still interesting trying Turkish food!
