Relaxing day with Mihia. Went on a Sunday in July. Quite crowded at the trailhead near lake. Did a loop and back side of trail was peaceful and empty. Highly recommend going on a weekday if you can help it!
Had a wonderful trip . Fantastic views at the top!! Despite the weather, the guide amended the walk as the wind was too strong to walk along the ridge so still had a great time. The guide was very kind and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone
What really makes this tour stand out? First, the drive along the Transfagarasan Road is a highlight on its own — a winding, dramatic route built for strategic military use that offers some of the best vistas around. That said, a potential snag is that the hike can be quite demanding, so it’s best suited for those in good physical shape. The drive itself is a highlight — steep cliffs, lush greenery, and panoramic views that seem to stretch forever. It’s a journey that makes the experience special right from the start, and it’s worth noting the road is only open from July 1 to October 31.
Once you arrive at Balea Lake, roughly two hours from Brasov, the real adventure begins. You’ll hike from Balea Lake up to Capra Lake, a gorgeous glacier-fed body of water surrounded by rugged peaks. Depending on the weather and your group’s pace, your guide might suggest taking on the Vanatoarea lui Buteanu peak, which reaches 2,507 meters. During the hike, you’ll get plenty of opportunities for photos, especially given the spectacular backdrop of the mountains, waterfalls, and lakes. The reviews mention that guides are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful — not just in navigating the terrain but also in sharing interesting facts about Romanian nature and culture.
Truely amazing experience. Mihai was a great guide on this beautiful day in Făgăraș mountains. He explained so much about the nature, culture and Romania in general. Besides being a great mountain guide he was also a good driver and photographer. Would definitely recommend to take the tour!
We had an absolutely brilliant time hiking in the Fagaras mountains! Our guide Bogdan was fantastic, picked us up and drove us there. He was very experienced and made sure to show us all the best sights. The hike was spectacular-starting with luscious forests, then into huge snow-covered valleys, climbing to an incredible view of Lake Balea. Finish by descending into Lake Balea for a drink at the hut, and taking the cable car down (getting stunning views of the transfagarasan route and waterfall). The whole day was about 10 hours. One thing to note: We went in early October and by that point there was snow on the mountains. We didn’t quite expect that (we thought there would be no snow yet…
After the hike, there’s an option to relax and refuel at the Balea Lake Hotel. This leisurely meal is a nice way to wrap up the day, providing an opportunity to enjoy local flavors with a view.
