Elafonisi Beach is a beautiful location and we enjoyed almost 4 hours there. The outbound journey included a stop where there was a cafe and a sacred cave for those who chose to climb the steps up to it (no charge for the cave). If you have good mobility don't miss out on the cave as it's stunning. The meal we had on the way back in Elos village was tasty and good value.
Daniel
Great day and the guide was excellent. Go to the far end of the island for the best experience. Could have done with 15 more minutes at the cave and same in Elos. Great value.
Amanda
Well worth doing, all very well organised and the food stops were lovely too.

On the flip side, a potential consideration is the duration—if your idea of a perfect trip involves more time lounging on the beach or exploring villages, four hours at Elafonissi might feel brief.

It’s also great for anyone eager to see Elafonissi’s famous pink sands, with plenty of time to relax, swim, and soak up the views. We had a fantastic experience! The trip was well organized, and our guide was super kind and knowledgeable, sharing great facts about Crete, olive trees, and olive oil. We started around 8 a.m. with hotel pickups and stopped at a honey producer on the way — amazing honey, plus a café, shop, and washroom. The drive to the beach is scenic but winding, so keep that in mind if you get carsick. We arrived around 11 a.m.; the area has everything you need — mini markets, food, coffee, and toilets. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the beach, where we even saw cute goats! We spent around 3 hours enjoying the crystal-clear water and pink sand. On the way back, we stopped at charming Elos Village …

I really liked this trip, I only would have liked it more if the beach time was longer. Ingrid is a great guide and a lovely person!

Fantastic! Beautiful! The transportation was great and the stop for lunch was also great!

After about 80 minutes on the bus, the first stop is at a café in Topolia, where many travelers appreciate the chance to buy breakfast and stretch their legs. The drive through the mountains is often praised for its scenic quality, offering a glimpse into rural Crete and its rugged landscape.

One reviewer mentioned, “the drive through the mountains and countryside was stunning,” which sets a lovely tone for the day.

The highlight, of course, is Elafonissi Beach. Known for its pink sands and crystal-clear waters, the beach is a visual treat. The tour provides around four hours of free time here, so you can swim in the shallow lagoons, sunbathe, or just take pictures of the striking scenery.

Several reviews mention how quiet and peaceful the beach was when they visited—great for unwinding or capturing that postcard-perfect shot.

We had a lovely time on this tour to gorgeous Elafonisi! Ingrid delighted us with very interesting facts about the local areas we were passing through, as well as wider facts about Crete, which was perfect for us as first time visitors. The honey at the first toilet/coffee break is very good, and we enjoyed a snack and shopping from locals in the village of Elos on return. Nikos the driver was great through the tricky mountain roads too, and as someone who suffers from car sickness I had no problem at all. A trip to remember!
Marta
The beach and island is absolutely beautiful and we did locate some of the famous pink sand (here and there). Our young driver was very skilful navigating the narrow Cretan roads and did a fantastic job at getting us safely to/from the destination. The pickup from a pre-determined location was on time and our guide made every effort to make sure everyone was happy. Please note the activity offers many pick-up locations, however not necessarily from Your hotel, so you may need to travel to a pre-determined spot. The bus itself was a little cramped (I measure about 5'6" or 176cm) and my knees where against the seat in front of me. Overall a good option to visit a lovely spot, and not have to d…

I had a nice time going to Elafonisi, it does take about an hour to pick everyone up but the stops for breakfast and to Elos for lunch were very nice! Elafonisi is what I expected, beautiful and it really has the pink hues in some areas!

The Elafonissi Experience

Many reviews highlight how beautiful Elafonissi is, with some saying it’s almost too stunning, feeling like “paradise on Earth.” The shallow waters stretch quite a way out, making it ideal for gentle swims and children. Be aware, though, that in peak season, the beach can get crowded, but during shoulder seasons, it’s more manageable.

The Village of Elos and Lunch

On the way back, you’ll stop at Elos Village for about an hour. This is often described as authentic and charming, with many travelers appreciating the chance to enjoy a traditional Cretan lunch—a highlight for food lovers.

The reviews praise the meal as delicious, homemade, and good value, with one traveler mentioning they enjoyed the “best home-cooked pastitsio.” It’s an excellent chance to learn about local life and taste genuine flavors.

Very fun excursion from our area of Chania. If you are visiting and staying in the north of Crete. This tour will show you the diversity of the island and how different the south of Crete is. Both lovely, but nice to see the small village of Elos and Elafonisi beach.
