5.0(95 reviews)From $40.00 per person

If you’re planning a cruise stop in Kusadasi and considering a trip to the iconic ruins of Ephesus, you’ll want to read this thorough review. This tour, offered by Samyeli Travel, has received a consistently high star rating—an impressive 5.0 based on 92 reviews—and seems to deliver a memorable experience. But what makes it stand out, and what should you watch out for? Here’s our detailed take.

Two things we love about this tour are the personalized experience thanks to a private guide and the well-organized itinerary that balances site visits with cultural stops. The inclusion of a traditional Turkish lunch and the opportunity to visit local craft shops adds a genuine flavor to the day.

One potential consideration is the number of stops that involve shopping, which some travelers find less appealing, especially if their main goal is sightseeing. The tour does include visits to carpet and leather shops, which may feel like a sales environment for some—but this is common in Turkey. Still, many reviews highlight the absence of pressure and the informational nature of these visits.

Aydin was a terrific guide and host. He was well informed and flexible. Our group learned so much and were pleasantly surprised by the experience Aydin provided. I have taken tours across the globe with Viator for 15 years and have never been disappointed. Our day in Ephesus was awesome!

Your first major stop is the Ancient City of Ephesus—a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with Roman grandeur. Walking where Apostle Paul and John once strolled adds a layer of historical significance.

The tour was the best! Fusun is by far the most knowledgeable guide we have ever had the pleasure of meeting! We have so much more of an appreciation for Turkeye.

Aydin, our guide literally customized our excursion to our suit our preferences. We visited and learned about the Ephesus Archaeological site history and human experience as it was during that time. He kept the pace such that we were able to absorb and appreciate the depth and nuance of all he shared. A leather manufacturing, design and shop showed an incredibly thin leather that is waterproof, lightweight and soft. Though leather is not something we crave, we were impressed. We were treated to a lovely lunch of typical Turkish foods at an outdoor cafe adjacent to acvery special and interesting place. We then visited a weaving cooperative. Residents learn the art of rug weaving the myriad …

Undoubtedly the best tour I’ve ever had and the entire group believed. When Salman told us he was giving us his best guide Fulsun, we just assumed it was retail talk. Lo and behold she was absolutely amazing. We traveled with our 1 year old son and 4 adults. She was so caring, nurturing and supportive of our traveling with a kid. Her knowledge and presenting style was super authentic and personable and made us want to learn more. Some in our group on some of the other tours we had at different stops on our cruise would walk away and disengage. This was not the case with Fulsun as our guide. She was engaging and truly made you feel apart of the storytelling. All of her suggestions were real…

Expect about three hours here, during which you’ll explore and take plenty of photos. The well-preserved Terrace Houses are a highlight for many visitors, showcasing luxury Roman life through striking mosaics and frescoes. Access to these is optional and depends on time, with an extra fee if you choose to visit.

Salman a pleasure to work with. From the moment we booked the trip, he was in contact with us, letting us know what to expect. When we arrived Bulent was waiting for us and super pleasant. The day was amazing with a great tour in additional highlights. Highly recommend booking with them.

Very professional Tour Operator and Guide! Our private tour guide Fusun definitely tailored the tour to our liking. She was flexible and warm, and lovely to spend the day with. I highly recommend! Part of the tour included a carpet factory which we were not particularly interested in, but it was very interesting and we were not pressured to buy. Our transportation was very comfortable and driver professional as well.

Ephesus was interesting, as well as seeing the way Carpet is made, and having a very enjoyable lunch.

At $40 per person, this tour is quite competitive. The cost includes transportation, your guide, all parking fees, taxes, and the lunch. Many reviews highlight that the value for money is excellent, especially considering the private service and the comprehensive experience.

While some optional extras, like the entrance fee to the Terrace Houses (~$15) or Turkish bath packages, cost extra, they are not mandatory. The tour itself covers the main highlights, making it a good option for budget-conscious travelers who want quality.

This was more of a shopping tour than a sightseeing tour. We visited 1 site but stopped at 4 to 6 places to go shopping. Tour guides in Turkey appear to be more interested in getting kickbacks from merchants when you buy something rather than providing site seeing.

The tour guide Yeliz was amazing!!! Very very knowledgeable and so sweet!! If you need a tour- ask for her specifically!! Lunch was delicious- soo tasty!! Traditional Turkish meal . They then take you to see how the rugs and silk are made and then a leather factory- which has AMAZING priced leather goods.. half price or more off that regular price – – excellent quality leather!

Highly recommend this tour. The guide was so incredibly knowledgeable and able to find interesting facts and topics for all ages of the family to capture their interest. We were able to customize the tour at any point to take advantage of things we wanted to see and do. The whole family found this tour a highlight of the trip and it was so educational while still being fun for the kids. The lesson and demonstration on the rug making was amazing as was the authentic meal we enjoyed. Ephesus was eye opening and would not have been even close to such a great experience without having our guide explaining all the ruins and history and interesting items to intrigue the kids and historical facts f…

From glowing reviews like “Undoubtedly the best tour I’ve ever had,” to comments about “professional and enjoyable” guides, there’s a consistent theme: guides make all the difference. Many mention guides like Fusun, Serdar, or Haluk—each adds their own personal warmth and expertise.

Some reviews mention the shop stops—carpet and leather stores—as enjoyable, especially if you appreciate learning about Turkish craftsmanship. Others, however, note that these stops can sometimes feel more sales-oriented, and some travelers prefer to focus solely on the ruins.

It’s worth noting that the tour providers have taken steps to improve this aspect, with some guides no longer working with the company if their approach wasn’t aligned with customer satisfaction.

The flexibility of the itinerary and the private nature of the tour make it suitable for those who want to customize their experience, whether that’s spending more time at Ephesus or exploring local crafts.

Great tour with Mehmet. He was very knowledgable and the variety of the tour was great…Ephesus, local lunch and rug manufacturing/craftsmanship tour. Mehmet was respectable and tailored for our children. To make the tour better, a slightly later lunch would have been preferred as we weren’t massively hungry but the food was delicious. Mehemt’s English is impressive given he is self taught but could perhaps try speaking a little louder. But overall a great tour…thanks so much Mehmet and to the driver (lovely cool air con mini van!)

OLur guide also arranged for us to get Turkish baths (at a reasonable extra cost). The lunch was very cordial. Food was fine but not like a restaurant where you got a choice. Charming setting though.

We came into Kusadasi on a cruise ship and only had a short amount of time in port (6 hours). We started off and went to Ephesus. Before getting to Ephesus, we stopped at a store that had a variety of items from Turkish Delight to Saffron and other "remedies," all of which we could buy if we wanted. We were also able to use restrooms here as there weren't any available at Ephesus. I'll know next time to get a tour with tickets included, we stood in line for a bit to get tickets, we got them and then headed off into the ancient city. Our guide was great at capturing pictures for us and giving us information about the ancient city but he kept leaving us to go sit. Now I get that the tem…
