It’s a popular option for those wanting a quick escape across the Strait of Gibraltar to soak up a bit of Moroccan flavor without the hassle of an overnight stay.
What we like about this experience: First, the scenic ferry crossing offers a fun and immediate taste of crossing from Europe to Africa. Second, the guided tour of Tangier’s medina and Kasbah promises a chance to explore vibrant markets and historic sites with a knowledgeable local guide. These are great for getting a feel for the city’s energy and culture.
However, there’s a notable drawback that many travelers mention—long border queues and some disorganization can eat into your sightseeing time. This means if you’re tight on time or expecting a perfectly smooth day, you might want to prepare for some delays.
Muy bien el guía en Tanger, pero un poco desorganizado el transporte de Cadiz a Tarifa e igual el regreso.
Bardzo dobra organizacja
Amazing excursion, we had a lot of fun and enjoyed the company of Rachid, he was kind and very funny. We saw some beautiful things in Tanger and enjoyed Moroccan food and music. The taxi back to our hotel was messy which caused us to wait for over an hour in a dark abandoned parking lot in the middle of nowhere, but that had nothing to do with Rachid or anything else during the excursion. I recommend this excursion, we really enjoyed it!
This trip generally suits adventurous travelers who don’t mind some unpredictability, and those interested in a quick cultural jaunt to Morocco. If you’re looking for a relaxed, leisurely day with plenty of time at each site, this might feel a bit rushed.

The Itinerary in Detail
The tour kicks off with pickups from various locations around Cádiz, with the entire day lasting around 12 hours. The first step is a bus ride that lasts about an hour, followed by the ferry crossing of roughly one hour across the Strait of Gibraltar. During this ferry ride, you’ll enjoy some of the best views of the coast—think rolling hills, the ocean, and, if the weather’s clear, spectacular vistas.
Once in Tangier, your local guide will lead you through the bustling medina and the historic Kasbah. We loved the way guides bring these areas alive, pointing out key sights and sharing stories that make the streets more meaningful. The medina is a maze of narrow alleys filled with shops, stalls, and colorful sights—perfect for those who love to browse and soak up local ambiance.
One of the unique moments is meeting camels, with an optional short ride. It’s mostly a photo opportunity, but it tends to be quite popular and adds a genuine touch of Moroccan tradition, even if brief. Keep in mind that some reviews mention that the guide might steer guests toward visiting shops where they earn commissions. If you prefer to explore freely, communicate this early on.
Lunch is served at a local restaurant, offering traditional dishes like couscous and tahini. The reviews suggest that the meal can be quite rushed and basic, with some feeling it doesn’t truly showcase Moroccan cuisine. If you’re expecting a leisurely, authentic feast, this might fall short, but it’s still a good chance to sample local flavors.
After lunch, you get some free time to wander the souks and artisan shops. This is where you can shop for spices, ceramics, textiles, or simply enjoy watching life unfold in the marketplace. Many travelers find this part enjoyable, though some note that the overall time spent exploring is limited, and the tour moves at a brisk pace.
Our guide in Tangier, Rashid, is great fun and Carlos (who comes all the way from Spain with the tour) at all times checks that all is well, he explains perfectly what will be done etc. My sons really enjoyed the Morrocan lunch and I liked the whole trip overall. We were picked up by a taxi at our hotel in Cádiz, the taxi dropped us outside of Cadiz, where the tour bus to Tangier collected us to take the ferry. Overall I recommend the trip. The only downside was our ferry back didn't come, so we had to take the next one, so we were 2.5 hours delayed home. But it is the ferry company fault, not the tour organiser. The other bad part is the passport, security and ticket checks, long queues. A…
The day wraps up with the ferry crossing back to Cádiz, followed by the bus ride to your pickup point. Be aware that border controls and queueing can cause delays, as some reviews point out, making the journey longer than anticipated.

What You’ll Experience: The Good, the Bad, and the Practical

The ferry ride is a highlight—easy to enjoy and offering great views, it’s a fantastic way to start your Moroccan adventure. You’ll want your passport handy, as border checks are necessary, and the queues can be lengthy. Several travelers mention that these delays can eat into your sightseeing time, with some waiting over two hours at the border. If patience isn’t your strong suit, it’s good to be prepared.
Guided touring of Tangier’s medina and Kasbah offers a culturally rich experience. The guides are generally well-liked, with some like Rashid earning praise for their fun and informative style. However, the tour is quite rushed, and some felt that only glimpses of the city’s highlights are possible in the short time. If you’re someone who prefers more time to explore independently, this might feel a bit hurried.
Meals and shopping are mixed experiences. The Moroccan lunch is included, but reviews suggest it’s quick and somewhat underwhelming—"a bit of couscous with two veggies, a tiny bowl of soup, and a tiny chicken skewer," as one traveler described. The shopping stops can feel a little forced, with guides earning commissions, which might influence your experience. If you prefer to skip these, be upfront with your guide.
Camels give a fun, if brief, photo opportunity. It’s not a full camel ride experience—more like a quick encounter—yet many find it adds a fun, memorable touch to the day.
Price & Value: Is It Worth It?
At $187 per person, this tour isn’t the cheapest way to visit Tangier, but it does include many components: transportation, guided tour, lunch, and the ferry. When you consider the cost of booking separate transfers, guides, and meals yourself, it might be a convenient option.
However, the value depends heavily on what you’re after. If your main goal is a quick, guided glimpse of Tangier with some cultural moments, it can be worthwhile. But if you’re looking for an in-depth experience or gourmet Moroccan cuisine, you might find the included meal and limited free time disappointing.
Our Overall Take
This tour offers a snapshot of Tangier’s sights, sounds, and flavors, all packed into a full day. It’s perfect for travelers who want a hassle-free way to cross the border and see the highlights without planning every detail themselves. The scenic ferry ride and local guides make for an engaging experience, especially if you’re new to Morocco or short on time.
That said, the border delays and sometimes rushed itinerary can be frustrating. The included lunch and shopping stops may not meet everyone’s expectations—some find the meal rushed or the shopping a little pushy. The reviews reflect a mix of experiences, so keep your expectations balanced.
If you’re flexible, patient, and curious about Moroccan culture, this trip can be fun and eye-opening. Just be prepared for some logistical hiccups and a fast-paced day. It’s best suited for those who want a taste of Tangier rather than an exhaustive exploration.
