After reviewing dozens of traveler accounts and digging into what makes this Gran Canaria tour tick, we’re genuinely impressed by how well it delivers on the promise of showing you a completely different side of the island. What really catches our attention is the combination of knowledgeable local guides who clearly love their island and the chance to experience working agricultural practices that most visitors never find on their own. The main consideration worth noting upfront: this tour involves genuine hiking with wet feet, muddy paths, and uneven terrain—it’s not a casual stroll, and you need to be prepared for that.

This experience works best for travelers who want to break free from the resort bubble and actually understand what makes Gran Canaria tick beyond its famous beaches. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a food lover curious about local agriculture, or simply someone tired of the standard tourist circuit, this tour delivers authentic moments that tend to stick with you long after your trip ends.

At $117.91 per person for a full day (7 to 10 hours) that includes transportation, a certified guide, meals with local products, and activities, the value proposition holds up remarkably well when you consider what’s included. You’re not just paying for a tour; you’re getting access to places and knowledge that would be genuinely difficult to arrange independently. I had the best time ever! Food was INCREDIBLE. Angelica and Celeste were kind, knowledgeable, funny, and experienced. Couldn't have had a better time!

Beautiful, green area! Celeceste and Angelica were lovely guides, thank you for a great day 🙂 (The part in Firgas might be a bit boring for kids, the walk in the woods and visit at the farm I think is lovely for everyone! And would not be easily available on your own, very cool to see. We had rough sea that day, and didnt get to try the swimming part, but it was nice to see the bay anyways.)
Anna Y
Excellent tour! You get to hike in the nature, learn about the plants and history of the island, see a traditional village and have a wonderful lunch with fresh plentiful food. Our guide Angélica was very knowledgeable and with a great sense of humor. Thank you for the lovely day!

Most travelers book this experience about 26 days in advance, suggesting it fills up regularly—a sign that word-of-mouth recommendations are driving bookings. The 97% recommendation rate among 607 reviewers tells you something important: this isn’t a tour that works for everyone, but for those it clicks with, it becomes a standout memory of their time on the island.

Firgas: The City of Water

Your day starts in Firgas, a town with a fascinating relationship to water that shaped Gran Canaria’s development. The 30-minute stop here gives you time to walk the Paseo de Canarias, a visual representation of the island’s municipalities, and see the Water Mills that once powered local industry. One reviewer noted that “the part in Firgas might be a bit boring for kids,” which is honest feedback worth considering if you’re traveling with younger children who need more active engagement.

That said, understanding Firgas provides important context for everything that follows. This isn’t just a photo stop—your guide uses this location to explain how water shaped the island’s history and culture, which deepens your appreciation for the ecosystems you’ll encounter later.

Barranco de Azuaje: The Heart of the Experience

The 3-hour hike through Barranco de Azuaje is where this tour genuinely distinguishes itself. You’re walking through what remains of the Doramas Forest, one of the world’s rarest ecosystems—a laurel forest that’s been preserved for millions of years. The hike covers approximately 3 kilometers into the ravine, featuring uneven paths, stream crossings, narrow sections, and rocky surfaces that will absolutely get your feet wet.

This isn’t hyperbole from the tour company—multiple reviewers mentioned getting muddy and wet, and one noted “you will get a bit muddy and your shoes will be wet, if not waterproof but it’s all part of the fun.” The operator specifically recommends waterproof hiking shoes, and this isn’t casual advice. Your feet will get wet crossing mountain streams. Bring shoes that can handle it and dry socks for later.

What makes this hike memorable isn’t the difficulty (it’s rated easy to moderate) but what you encounter along the way. Your guide points out endemic flora and fauna you’d never notice alone. One traveler shared: “she showed us things we would never notice ourself. I learned a lot during the tour.” Another described the experience as “a small trek up an overgrown small stream,” which is accurate but doesn’t capture why guides with real knowledge make this worthwhile. They’re explaining the ecological significance of what you’re seeing, the history of the forest, and the plants that survive nowhere else on Earth.

Despite staying on the north side of the island, this tour gives you a unique experience of Gran Canaria beyond the beaches! Well worth your time to take this tour into some local towns and villages, plus a stroll (and fun times going over streams!) into a rainforest. Angélica, our tour guide, was passionate about showing off her island home and kept everyone engrossed and entertained. 10/10 experience for a solo traveler like myself 🙂

It is a nice trip split in 3, first you visit Firgas and hear the story of the city, afterwards you drive to the little rainforest and have a nice walk and see all the flora and fauna here. After this you visit a small farm and have dinner, fresh fruit and other delicious things. The trip ends with a swimming trip and it is so nice. But the really reason for 5 stars is the guide angelica, she was really good and made the experience even more memorable
Nizami M
I think the best part of the tour was our guide, I believe her name was Angelique. She was extremely friendly, very knowledgeable, and you could truly feel her love for the island. It made the experience really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this tour to a friend.

The hike includes a refreshing dip in a natural pool formed within the forest—one reviewer called this "the little pond in the forest (very refreshing!)" and another described jumping into "the natural pool" as a highlight. This isn't a major swimming experience, but it's a welcome break during the hike.

The Eco-Farm: Local Food and Sustainable Agriculture

After the hike, you'll visit a working farm practicing sustainable agriculture—the kind of place that demonstrates rather than lectures. This is where the tour shifts from active exploration to sensory experience. You'll learn about ecological farming methods and, more importantly, taste the results.

The food component consistently appears as a highlight in reviews. One traveler raved: "Food was INCREDIBLE" and another described the lunch as "stunning in an open air setting." A vegetarian traveler noted appreciation for "lots of vegetables and fruit," though wished there was more variety. The produce here isn't restaurant food—it's what the farm actually grows, prepared simply to highlight quality ingredients.

One reviewer captured something special: "I tasted the best avocado in my life during this day." Another mentioned "fresh fruit and other delicious things" and a third noted "fresh fruits, cheese and bread" that felt genuinely local rather than catered. You'll get fresh fruits, artisanal cheese, and other local products—exactly what you'd find if you were eating at a farm stand rather than a tourist restaurant.

The farm visit lasts about an hour, giving you time to eat, rest from the hike, and actually absorb information about how this agriculture works. The open-air setting matters—you're eating in the actual landscape where the food was grown, which adds context that changes how the food tastes.

Playa El Puertillo: The Coastal Finale

Your day concludes at a peaceful fishing village with natural pools formed by volcanic rock—a stark contrast to the forest experience. The 45-minute stop here is designed as a wind-down, though weather conditions sometimes don't cooperate. One reviewer mentioned: "We had rough sea that day, and didn't get to try the swimming part, but it was nice to see the bay anyways."

The natural pools here offer safe swimming in clear water, with black sand creating striking visual contrast. This isn't a crowded beach—it's where locals actually go, which explains why one traveler called it a "refreshing experience in the relaxing natural pools." Bring your swimsuit and a change of clothes, because you might get another chance to swim depending on conditions.

The Transportation Reality

Here's where the tour's logistics deserve attention. Your pickup time depends on where you're staying—the south zone gets picked up between 7:45 and 9:30 AM, while Las Palmas residents see times between 8:30 and 9:45 AM. The company confirms your exact pickup time the day before via email, WhatsApp, SMS, or phone between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. This system works well in practice, but it requires you to be reachable and responsive the day before.

You need to be ready 15 minutes early, visible and prepared. The company warns that pickups may be delayed by up to 20 minutes due to traffic, and they'll contact you if it exceeds that. The full day includes about 6 hours for the main activities and 2 to 4 hours for round-trip transportation depending on your location. If you're staying in the south, you're looking at a longer drive, which explains why the tour officially runs 7 to 10 hours.

One traveler who appreciated the organization noted: "A smooth pick up and drop off" and another praised "Communication was in top! They text you before you go so there is nothing to worry about." This matters more than it sounds—when a tour involves winding mountain roads and multiple stops, clear communication prevents stress.

Your Guide Makes All the Difference

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - Your Guide Makes All the Difference

The single most consistent element across positive reviews is the quality of the guides. Angelica appears repeatedly in reviews, with travelers describing her as "kind, knowledgeable, funny, and experienced," "passionate about showing off her island home," and someone who "kept everyone engrossed and entertained." Another guide named Victor earned praise for being "funny, knowledgeable, and very caring." A third guide, Marina, was noted as someone who took visitors "to amazing parts of the island you would never normally see as travelers."

This matters because a good guide transforms a hike from exercise into education. They explain why the laurel forest is globally significant, point out plants you'd walk past unseeing, share the island's history, and create an atmosphere where the experience feels personal rather than processed. The company limits groups to 20 people maximum, which keeps things manageable and allows for actual conversation rather than shouting over crowds.

One traveler summed it up perfectly: "With this tour me and my boyfriend got to see a whole different part of Gran Canaria that I doubt we would've seen otherwise." The guide is the mechanism that makes this true.

Physical Demands and Preparation

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - Physical Demands and Preparation

This tour isn't a casual walk. The hike involves climbing, narrow paths, stream crossings, and uneven terrain. One reviewer noted: "It was very adventurous with lots of climbing and narrow paths. Your average condition should be above average." Another described needing "comfortable walking shoes and a jacket." The company recommends layered clothing because weather can vary from sunny to cold, and they may modify the hike based on conditions.

The operator suggests this tour isn't suitable for people with recent injuries or mobility impairments. Children as young as 5 can participate with a parent, though only 4 child spots are available per tour. The tour is generally suitable for people with basic fitness, but "above average" fitness makes the experience more enjoyable.

Essential items to bring: comfortable sportswear, waterproof hiking shoes, a backpack, sunscreen, light food, at least 1.5 liters of water, a raincoat, a swimsuit with towel and dry clothes, and your ticket in digital or printed format. Prohibited items include sandals, strollers, drones, alcohol, drugs, and aerosols. The operator asks that you respect the environment by disposing of waste properly.

What Reviewers Actually Liked and Disliked

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - What Reviewers Actually Liked and Disliked

Positive themes across reviews cluster around several elements. The guides' knowledge and passion appear in nearly every five-star review. The food quality and farm experience consistently impress. The chance to see a different side of Gran Canaria beyond beaches resonates with travelers seeking authenticity. Small group sizes enhance the experience. One reviewer who hadn't done much hiking before noted: "neither I nor my boyfriend have much prior hiking experience and we found this tour just adventurous enough."

The few critical comments worth considering: One traveler felt the rainforest description was "a bit misleading" and that it's "more of a small trek up an overgrown small stream." This is fair feedback—if you're expecting lush tropical rainforest like Costa Rica, you'll be disappointed. This is a Mediterranean-influenced laurel forest, which is ecologically significant but visually different from what many people imagine as "rainforest."

Another reviewer found the price high relative to the adventure level, noting the presence of elderly participants suggested it wasn't as challenging as expected. One person mentioned the van being "quite uncomfortable," though this appears to be an isolated complaint.

A handful of reviewers couldn't access all activities due to weather (rough seas preventing swimming), which is a legitimate consideration. The tour company can't control Atlantic conditions, so swimming isn't guaranteed.

The Value Conversation

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - The Value Conversation

Is $117.91 worth it? That depends on what you value. If you're measuring by "miles of hiking" or "adrenaline level," some reviewers felt it didn't deliver. But if you're measuring by "experiences I couldn't arrange myself," "quality local food," "guide," and "authentic interactions with the island," most reviewers found it worthwhile.

The tour includes meals, which many day tours don't. It includes transportation from your hotel, saving hassle on unfamiliar roads. It includes access to a working farm and a forest ecosystem most travelers never find. It includes a guide whose knowledge transforms what you see. These elements together create value that's hard to replicate independently.

One traveler put it directly: "Worth every penny & would highly recommend this trip to anyone."

Booking and Cancellation

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - Booking and Cancellation

The tour offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before the experience starts. This flexibility matters when you're planning a vacation and weather or other factors might change. The company provides mobile tickets, so there's no need for printed confirmations (though you can bring them if you prefer).

Booking typically happens about 26 days in advance, suggesting this tour fills up regularly during peak seasons. The 97% recommendation rate indicates strong demand from people who've experienced it.

FAQ

Full Day Rainforest Tour with Tasting and Swimming Time ツ - FAQ

Q: What's the actual difficulty level of the hike?
The hike through Barranco de Azuaje is rated easy to moderate, covering about 3 kilometers with stream crossings and uneven terrain. You'll get wet, and it requires basic fitness, but most people with reasonable health can manage it. One reviewer with no prior hiking experience found it "just adventurous enough."

Q: Will I definitely get to swim?
Swimming at the natural pools depends on sea conditions. One reviewer couldn't swim due to rough seas but still enjoyed seeing the bay. Bring your swimsuit and be prepared to swim, but understand that Atlantic conditions sometimes prevent it. The forest pool during the hike offers a smaller swimming opportunity regardless of sea conditions.

Q: What's included in the food portion?
You'll get fresh local products from the farm including fresh fruits, artisanal cheese, and bread. The meal is served in an open-air setting at the farm itself. If you have food restrictions, inform the company in advance so they can accommodate you.

Q: How much time do I actually spend hiking versus traveling?
The full day is 7 to 10 hours total. Of that, approximately 6 hours covers the main activities (30 minutes in Firgas, 3 hours hiking, 1 hour at the farm, 45 minutes at El Puertillo), with 2 to 4 hours spent on round-trip transportation depending on your accommodation location.

Q: What should I wear?
Bring waterproof hiking shoes (your feet will get wet), layered clothing (weather varies from sunny to cold), and a raincoat. You'll also need a swimsuit and towel. Avoid sandals. Comfortable sportswear is essential, and long sleeves and pants offer protection from sun and brush.

Q: How large are the groups?
Groups are limited to 20 people maximum, which keeps the experience manageable. One reviewer noted their group had 8 people, which felt "perfect." Smaller groups allow for actual conversation with your guide and fellow travelers.

Q: What time will I be picked up?
Pickup times vary by location. South zone pickups occur between 7:45 and 9:30 AM, while Las Palmas pickups happen between 8:30 and 9:45 AM. The company confirms your exact time the day before via email, WhatsApp, SMS, or phone between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Q: What if I get motion sickness on winding roads?
The company mentions winding roads may cause motion sickness, and recommends bringing motion sickness tablets if you're prone to it. The van is air-conditioned, which may help, but it's worth preparing if you're sensitive to curves.

Bottom line: This tour genuinely delivers on showing you a Gran Canaria that most visitors miss, guided by knowledgeable locals who clearly love their island. The combination of forest ecosystems, working agriculture, and coastal landscapes in a single day, paired with thoughtful guides and quality food, creates an experience that justifies the price for travelers seeking authenticity over typical tourist activities. The hike requires real preparation and physical readiness, the weather can affect swimming opportunities, and the van ride involves winding roads, but for people who want to understand the island beyond its beaches and don't mind getting muddy, this tour ranks among the best ways to spend a day on Gran Canaria.
