Thinking about visiting Cappadocia and wondering if a guided day trip is worth it? We’ve looked into one popular option — a full-day tour that covers the Ihlara Valley hike, underground city exploration, and key panoramic spots. This is a well-reviewed experience, rated 5 stars by nearly all reviewers, and priced at just over $46 per person.
What immediately stands out about this tour are its thoughtful itinerary and the quality of the guides, who seem to really make the experience memorable. We also appreciate that it offers a good balance of walking, sightseeing, and cultural insight. But, like any tour, there are some aspects to consider, such as the pace which some find a bit rushed, especially at certain stops.
This tour is best suited for those who want a comprehensive day in Cappadocia without worrying about planning. If you’re comfortable walking moderate distances and want a guided overview that hits the highlights, this could be a perfect pick. Families with older children might also find it engaging, but very young kids might find some of the walking segments a little tiring.
We joined a day tour with Mehmed as our guide, and it was honestly such a wonderful experience. He’s incredibly friendly and easy to connect with, and you can really feel his passion in the way he explains everything. He shared each place with so much detail, depth, and enthusiasm that it made the whole tour come alive. I also really appreciated how open he was about his own life and experiences — it made the day feel more personal and meaningful, and it was so easy to feel comfortable around him. Highly recommend joining a tour with Mehmed if you get the chance!
This tour covers Ihlara valley, underground city, pigeon valley with nice walk around streams and with a panoramic view
Very interesting tour. I consider it a must-see if you're visiting Göreme or the surrounding area, given the exceptional nature of the sites visited. Our guide Mehmet was particularly pleasant and interestingly! I highly recommend this tour and operator

Starting off with a View: Goreme Panorama
Your day begins with a quick stop at Goreme Panorama, which offers what many say is the best view of Goreme town and the surrounding volcanoes. It’s a short 15-minute stop, but the vista is a worthwhile way to orient yourself and get a sense of the landscape you’ll be exploring. Reviewers love this as an introduction, mentioning the clear weather often makes the views especially striking.
Exploring the Underground: Kaymakli or Similar City
Next, you’ll visit the underground city, often Kaymakli — noted as the largest or deepest underground city in the area. It’s a fascinating look into how ancient inhabitants carved entire complexes beneath the earth’s surface for protection and daily life. The visit lasts about an hour, and while the admission fee isn’t included, reviewers find it’s well worth the time.
One guest called the underground city a “travel experience unlike any other,” highlighting the sense of wonder about how people managed to live underground.
The Hike in Ihlara Valley
Perhaps the highlight for many is the walk through Ihlara Valley. Starting at the main gate, the hike covers roughly 3.5 km along streams and cliffs before reaching the lunch spot. It takes around two hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the lush scenery and perhaps snap some photos.
An incredible experience from start to finish! Everything was perfectly organized, but the true highlight was our guide, who was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the day unforgettable. Highly recommend this tour!
The guide was informative and good in communication. Sufficient time was given at each location. The underground city was the highlight.
We had a great experience in this tour. Highly revommended for everyone to take this tour. The lunch provided was delicious
Reviewers consistently praise the “nice walk around streams with panoramic views,” and several mention that the hike is manageable if you’re used to walking but may be tiring for some.
The valley’s beauty and tranquility make it a favorite, with some calling it a “fascinating mix of nature and history.”
Visiting Selime Monastery
After the hike, you’ll head to Selime Monastery for about an hour. It’s a site that offers impressive views of the old cave town and a tangible sense of history. The monastery’s vantage point provides sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, and visitors often comment on how atmospheric it is.
Although the admission isn’t included, many find that the stop is worth it for the scenery and the feeling of stepping back in time.
All staff members were professional and friendly. Mehmet (our tour guide) was very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend this tour highly.
We were a small group lead by the tour guide, around 6 of us. However, time was still quite packed and rushed. We did not have much time to take photos at certain attraction points which was very regretful as we would not be back there anymore. Guide gave us a lot of time to stop at shops/places where tourists would have to spend money but however not at the main attraction points, like at the ihlara valley, where more time should be allocated there. Time at a certain location was also decided by the guide, like after he was done with his smoke break, we would have to head off to the next location. Quite disappointing with such a small pax yet felt rushed and not personalized unlike the desc…
Awesome day trip with Guide Ferman and driver Mehmet (sp?). They planned the route to beat the crowds and the guide was very knowledgeable. This was one of the highlights of the trip – just be prepared to do some walking!

Pigeon Valley Stop
The tour wraps up with a brief stop at Pigeon Valley, famous for its million pigeons once used for communication and food. This quick 15-minute stop allows for some last photos and reflection on the region’s natural and agricultural importance.
The Practicalities: Transportation, Food, and Group Size

Your day is comfortably managed with an air-conditioned vehicle, making the long drives between sites more pleasant, especially during the warmer months. The pickup from centrally-located hotels makes the start easy and stress-free.
The tour includes lunch, which reviewers frequently praise for being delicious, with some mentioning it as a highlight of the day. The meal typically provides a good break from the walking and adds value to the overall experience.
Group size is kept small — a maximum of 15 travelers — which often results in a more personalized touch, with guides able to answer questions and accommodate varying paces.
AMAZING tour, I highly recommend this, mostly because of the incredible guide. I had such a fun day and learned so much as well. Plus, we had a very international group which was a pleasure to spend 8 hours with. Cannot recommend this enough, a must-do if you have a full day in Cappadocia.
Beyond the unique topography of the region which is on display throughout the tour, the underground city is a travel experience unlike any other. Highly recommended tour. Funda was an extremely friendly tour guide who consistently tried to provide interesting background information.
We had the best tour in our Kapadokya trip. Mehmet is a great, knowledgeable guy. He explained every single place of attraction concisely. Good for us as a tourist who wanted to enjoy our trip yet not burdened by excessive information. He helped us to get discounted price for mementos, brought us to a shopping place that sells Anatolian specialties such as baked pumpkin seeds. He also attended to our request to perform daily prayers while the group was having lunch. Overall, Mehmet is a great tour guide. We will be glad if he is our guide for our next Kapadokya trip.
Pricing at around $46.34 per person is quite reasonable considering the amount of ground covered, the includes (lunch and transportation), and the generally high reviews on value. Keep in mind that admission fees to sites are not included, so you might want to bring a little extra cash if you want to explore more thoroughly.
Reviews on the Guide and Overall Experience
Almost everyone agrees that the guides are the stars of this tour. They’re described as knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share interesting stories and background information. Multiple reviews mention guides like Mehmet, Funda, Yusuf, and Mehmed as making the experience special — going out of their way to provide details, good pacing, and even helping with extra requests like discounts or prayers.
Some guests felt the schedule was a little rushed, especially at certain stops. For example, one review noted that “time was still quite packed and rushed,” which might limit photo opportunities or leisurely exploration. It’s worth keeping in mind if you prefer a slower pace for photography or soaking in each site.
What Are the Downsides?
While generally very positive, a handful of reviews mentioned that certain stops felt hurried, and some sites require a moderate level of physical fitness due to walking on uneven terrain. The admission fees are not included, so be prepared to pay extra if you want to go inside certain locations. Also, drinks during lunch are extra, which travelers should budget for.
Our guide Yusuf was the best. Really great experience! I particularly liked the hike and the underground city.
Our guide, mehmed, was so kind and he explained us all the places with so much details. Vert nice worker.
Ali (our tour guide) was excellent, our group was amazing too. Many interesting and unique places were visited. I like everything, thanks a lot)
