If you’re considering a day trip from Sorrento to explore Capri by boat, this tour might catch your eye. It promises an intimate experience—small group size, scenic routes, and plenty of opportunities for swimming and sightseeing. We’ve looked into what this tour offers to help you decide if it aligns with your travel style.

What we genuinely like about this experience is how it combines a laid-back boat ride with the chance to see some of Capri’s most iconic sights, like the Faraglioni and the Green Cave. Plus, it’s a small group—no crowds, no chaos—and the onboard snacks and snorkeling gear add a nice touch.

However, a potential snag is the Blue Grotto. Reviews point out it’s not guaranteed, and at €18 per person, it’s an extra cost that might not be worth it for all. The tour also doesn’t include the Grotto entrance fee, which travelers should keep in mind.

The crew was so nice and friendly. They did a great job of showing us points of interest and sharing little stories. We stopped and swam a couple of times and the crew would check in to make sure everyone was ok and having fun. The boat was very nice and well maintained. Capri was beautiful and had a lot of people. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Great experience on Luka's Boat. Luka and his father were so nice and it was an enjoyable day, the boat is great and we loved the music and day spent.

This experience suits those who want a relaxed, scenic cruise with some swimming and exploration, especially if you’re okay with a flexible schedule around the Blue Grotto—knowing it’s often crowded or weather-dependent.

Such a lovely experience! Daniel and the captain (which unfortunately I did not get his name), took us to many beautiful spots and were very knowledgeable about each area. They made sure we were well hydrated with providing beer, water, soft drinks then Limoncello spritz. When we got to Capri a tasty tomato, basil & mozzarella roll was supplied, before we had a few hours to wonder the Island. They were fun, played good music and made sure everyone on board was having a good time. Unfortunately we weren't able to do the blue grotto – this was due to high tide, This didn't bother us as it meant the crew had our safety first. I would definitely recommend!

What an amazing experience! Daniel and the captain which i did not get his name, took us to so many beautiful spots and made sure to tell each one of us the history and point out the small details. They gave beer, water, soda then Limoncello spritz. They were fun, played music and made sure everyone was having a good time. I would definitely recommend going with Lucas boat crew and ask Daniel if possible.

We had booked a different tour for our trip, however less than 24 hours before it was scheduled to start they called and cancelled on us. We booked this tour last minute as we were really looking forward to a boat tour around Capri. We are so glad our other tour cancelled on us because this tour was outstanding! For almost the same price as the original tour, our tour was double the length of time and we were allowed off the boat to explore Capri! Our tour guides, Daniel and Elia were awesome! They pointed out defining features of Capri and the Sorento coastline, offered us plenty of drinks and provided sandwiches for lunch! They were very kind and fun and great at navigating the boat around…

Sea Caves & Landmarks

Your guide will show you some of Capri’s most renowned caves—including the Green Cave, Cave Bianca, and Cave of Wonders—plus the Punta Carena lighthouse. The boat is well-maintained, and reviews highlight how comfortable and well-equipped it is, with onboard toilets and plenty of space to relax.

Swimming & Snorkeling

One of the biggest perks here is the chance to stop and swim in Capri’s clear waters. Reviewers mention how enjoyable it is to dip into the ocean, with some stops providing safe, scenic spots great for floating or snorkeling with provided gear.

The Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto is part of the experience, but it’s important to note that entrance fees (€18 per person) aren’t included. Many reviews mention it’s a gamble—sometimes crowded, sometimes closed due to weather or tides. A few guests were disappointed that they couldn’t visit it, but others appreciated the flexibility to explore Capri itself.

Free Time on Capri

You’ll have some free time on land, roughly three hours, to wander around the town, shop, or just soak in the views. Many reviewers liked this balance—enough time to explore without feeling rushed.

Stopping and swimming in the ocean. Driver and host were excellent, they gave us plenty of information regarding the history of the area.
Cassandra R
Great trip around Capri! Luca is a great host and even though the morning of our trip was rainy and dull – it cleared up by the afternoon and it was beautiful!
Molly K
Had a great trip over to Capri. Was sad it was cloudy and our guide told us it wouldn’t be the same experience with overcast weather. We would’ve only waited for 20 minutes is all the line was, and he was willing to wait if anyone wanted to go! We met another young couple and hung out with them the rest of the day!

Return to Sorrento

The boat departs back around 3:30 pm, giving you a full day of sea and sun. The return trip is a relaxing cruise, often accompanied by music and more opportunities to swim or take photos.

What Makes This Tour Stand Out

The small group size really helps make this a relaxed experience. Unlike large boat tours that can feel crowded and rushed, here you’re on an intimate vessel where the crew can give personalized attention and tell stories that add context to what you see.

Authentic local guides and skippers that know the area well. Many reviews highlight how helpful and friendly the crew is, making the journey pleasant whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned traveler.

The scenic route passing by Capri’s most famous landmarks offers plenty of photo ops. The views of the Faraglioni, the lighthouse, and the caves are memorable, especially when you’re close enough to feel immersed in the environment.

Good boat ride however please be aware that this is not going to be the right tour if you want to go to the blue grotto or if you want to go snorkeling. The tour guide was ok, he only gave us one drink and took us to his restaurant on Capri to eat lunch, which he claims is his ‘friend’s’ shop. Luca was otherwise on his phone the whole trip or just disinterested. It might be cheaper just to catch the public ferry as this was pretty much the lacklustre experience we got from this tour!

This was 10/10. Tony was our captain and he was fantastic, plenty of swims along the way and although the blue grotto was closed due to high tide he took us to another cave which was just as beautiful and let us swim through it. Sandwiches provided were delicious, don't pack lunch or drinks as plenty of cold water, beer and soft drink were available on board. Wouldn't change a thing and would 100% do again.
Bridger R
Luca is the MAN!! 12/10 recommend. Clean boat, fun tour, awesome tour for pictures, and small 10-12 person experience.

Snacks and snorkeling gear are included, which makes this a fuss-free outing. No need to bring your own water or worry about renting equipment—just show up and enjoy.

The Realities of Visiting the Blue Grotto

Special visit Capri + Blue Grotto from Sorrento - The Realities of Visiting the Blue Grotto

Many travelers mention the Blue Grotto as a highlight, but also note the unpredictability. Some reviews point out that the wait times can be lengthy—up to two hours or more—and the entrance fee is an extra expense. One guest said, “It’s declared as the seventh tourist trap in the world,” which is a bit harsh but reflects how crowded it can get.

If visiting the Grotto is your main goal, this tour might not be the best, since the crew tends to avoid long waits or may suggest visiting on your own at additional cost. Others appreciated the alternative caves, which are just as beautiful and less crowded.

Is the Blue Grotto worth it?

It depends on your priorities. If you love iconic sights and are okay with the chance of missing out due to weather or crowds, then you’ll still enjoy the overall trip. But if your heart is set on experiencing the Grotto specifically, you might need to plan separately or be prepared for potential disappointment.

Luca provided everything from music, entertainment and drinks on the boat. We had a lovely time on our trip to capri!
Mehul S
The crew were very friendly. We couldn’t see blue grotto because of hi tide. We had no lefty of swim and island time but I wish the crew offered more drinks as they stayed such has persecco and other beverages.
Joshua B
We had an amazing time on the boat! Great music and views. We loved that we were able to have plenty of time to explore Capri and swim.

The Cost and Value Proposition

At $186.06 per person, this tour isn’t the cheapest option out there, but it includes many amenities—snacks, snorkeling equipment, and a personalized experience—that can justify the price. The smaller group size means you’re not just another face in a crowd, and the opportunity to swim in Capri’s inviting waters adds a memorable touch.

While it doesn’t cover the entrance fee to the Blue Grotto, many find that the overall relaxed vibe and scenic sailing make it a worthwhile day. That said, some reviewers felt it was a bit pricey compared to what they received, especially if their main goal was the Grotto itself.

Who Should Consider This Tour?

If you're someone who values flexibility, authentic local insights, and scenic beauty, this trip offers a good mix. But if you’re dead-set on visiting the Grotto or seeking the cheapest option, you might want to explore other routes.
