Even though we made the reservation late at night, the organizer got us a guide and we managed to do the tour to Targoviste. Alexander, the guide who accepted to deliver the tour, was very kind all the time, he explained to us about his culture and about the surrounding towns. He welcomed us with snacks and helped us with translations in places where people did not speak more than Romanian. Without a doubt an excellent adventure.

This trip is mostly driving which was fine since it was fall so the autumn color was brilliant and off season so not too crowded. The stay at the lake was lovely. But I would not book in high season. It was crowded enough in Oct

The landscape was very impressive especially the view from the mountain top and seeing wild bears was something that will never be forgotten.

On the flip side, this tour involves quite a bit of driving — roughly 10 hours in total — which might feel a bit long if you’re not a fan of extensive road trips. Also, the entrance fees to certain sites are extra, so be prepared for additional costs if you want to see everything up close.

The Experience in Detail

The Palace of Vlad the Impaler from Târgovite & Arges Monastery - The Experience in Detail

Starting Point: Princely Court in Târgoviste

Your adventure kicks off at the Princely Court, a site with roots back to the 15th century. This was once the residence of some of Romania’s most notable princes, including Vlad the Impaler himself. The guide will walk you through the history of this fascinating place, giving you context about its role during medieval times.

Many visitors, including those who left reviews, mention how much they appreciated the extensive knowledge of their guides. As Alejandra_O noted, “Alexander was very kind all the time, explaining all about his background.” The site itself is free to explore, but it’s the stories and insights that make it worthwhile.

Goleti Museum & Bucolic Scenery

Next, the tour takes you to the Muzeul Viticulturii si Pomiculturii Golesti, built in 1640. This isn’t your typical museum: it’s a fortified, laic structure that blends history with farm life and tradition. You’ll find a charming setting amid linden trees, with the chance to enjoy the peaceful, pastoral atmosphere.

Reviewers like Robert_M appreciated this stop, especially citing the beauty of the surroundings. “The stay at the lake was lovely,” he mentioned, emphasizing how the scenery enriching this part of the trip is. It’s also a peek into Romanian aristocratic life, as the mansion belonged to one of the country’s oldest families.

This was hands on the best tour I had in Romania. Fagarashan National park was gorgeous and Transfagarashan was fascination. It was fabulous to be in such naturally gorgeous surroundings and we saw 9 brown bears! What a treat. Sebastian was the BEST Guide I’ve ever had, and the last unscheduled stop at the castle whose picture is on 1Lei note was a yummy icing on the cake. Nature lovers will LOVE this tour!

Fantastic experience. This was a private excursion with Alin who took really good care of me. He was so full of knowledge about the history, geography, economics, sociology and politics of Romania and its neighbouring regions that the day literally flew by – despite being a very long tour. The scenery in the trip was spectacular and we spotted several wild brown bears, which was the main reason for me booking this trip. I cannot recommend Alin and doing the private tour highly enough.

This was an amazing and worthwhile trip. Sebastian was so knowledgeable about the landscape and very funny. A good portion is spent in the car but the scenery you see on the way is outstanding. We made multiple stops to see the scenery as we made our way to the top of the mountains. We also saw 8 bears so up close which was amazing. Overall would highly recommend!

The Majestic Curtea de Arges Monastery

Arges Monastery is a highlight for many travelers. Built over 500 years ago, its architecture is unlike most other religious sites in Romania, making it a real visual treat. The guide will likely share stories about its unique design and significance.

Visitors often comment on how spectacular the monastery’s architecture is—something you’ll want to capture with photos. It’s also a place of deep spiritual and cultural importance, giving you a sense of the country’s enduring faith.

The Practical Side

Transport is a big plus—an air-conditioned, Wi-Fi-ready vehicle means you can relax comfortably during the long drive between sites. The tour is private, so you won’t be stuck in a large group, which allows for flexibility and the chance to ask questions or linger at your favorite spots.

The total duration is about 10 hours, which might seem long but is packed with sights and stories. The price of roughly $196.22 per person is reasonable considering the inclusions—hotel transfers, a private guide, and the convenience of door-to-door service. Just remember, entrance fees for Vlad’s court, Goleti mansion, and Arges Monastery are extra, so budget accordingly.

What the Reviews Say

Many guests love the guides' knowledge and friendliness. As Fiona_M wrote, “Alin took really good care of me and shared so much about Romania’s geography, history, and culture.” Others loved the landscape, with sightings of bears and mountain views being memorable highlights.

However, not all reviews are glowing. A few travelers like JOHN_F felt disappointed, citing that their experience was “a trip to nowhere,” mainly because they didn’t see the bears or get the expected close-up views. The company responded by changing their vehicle to improve the experience, which shows they’re attentive to feedback.

Value for Money

Compared to other tours, this one offers a well-rounded experience at a fair price. For around $200, you get a fully personalized day with a guide, comfortable transportation, and several key sites. The extra costs for site entries are minor in the grand scheme, especially considering the private nature of the tour.
