SLPY: the wearable sleeping bag

When I was invited to review a wearable sleeping bag I wasn’t keen. But when I showed my 12 year-old son the SLPY website he was thrilled at the prospect of trying one.

SLPY

When we opened the parcel containing the SLPY which we were sent to review it looked just like a normal sleeping bag squashed up into its nylon sack.

We pulled it out of its sack and unfolded it. There are six colours to choose from but our SLPY is green with a grey lining and white zips.

The design of the SLPY is very clever. It’s a kind of sleeping bag with a hood. It has zips at the sides and bottom to put your arms and legs through so that you can wear it and even walk around with it on. Once we’d opened the parcel my son got changed into his pyjamas and got into the SLPY straight away and, when he’s at home, has had it on many times since, especially when playing on his Xbox or watching TV. He did try sleeping in it in bed one night but found it too restricting – he’s not that keen on sleeping in sleeping bags.

My son says:

The SLPY is good. It’s comfortable and warm. It’s easy to get in and out of. I like it for lazing around. It wasn’t that comfortable to sleep in because it was too hot and it wasn’t easy to get to sleep in. It’s hard to walk in because you can’t stretch your legs out. Really it’s a onesie that’s a sleeping bag.

The SLPY website shows pictures of models out hiking while wearing Sleepys. I can’t imagine anyone actually doing that but I think that they would be a useful item for kids to use on long car journeys, for camping, for sleepovers and just for relaxing at home.

SLPY specifications

The fabric is very soft polyamide. The zips are chunky with short lengths of leather attached to the sliders to make them easier to open and close. It looks well made and durable. The SLPY can be washed in a washing machine and is filled with a material called thermalise extreme which has a comfort rating of -5 degrees Celsius. The SLPY website has men’s, women’s and kids’ version on sale in various sizes. This isn’t a cheap item – the kids’ versions cost £99 and the adult versions cost £119.

Verdict

The SLPY is a fun and practical item and my son loves it. My teenage daughter would quite like one too. I like the quality and the design but I think that the price is quite high.

Disclosure: My son was sent a SLPY for the purposes of this review.
