We were hosted at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for one night.*
We spent the last night of our Thailand summer family trip at the splendid Novotel at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. We flew to Bangkok from Koh Samui in the evening, and our flight back to London wasn’t until the following morning. We wanted to stay as close to the airport as possible, so the four-star Novotel was perfect for us, as it’s actually just across the road from the terminal building.
Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
When we arrived in Bangkok, it was raining hard. Suvarnabhumi airport is huge, and it took us a few minutes to find the Novotel welcome desk. There was an air-conditioned minivan waiting just outside to drive us across to the hotel – as it was raining and we weren’t sure which way to go, we decided to take the minivan rather than walk, and a few minutes later we were at the hotel.
A couple of porters met us outside and took our luggage. The hotel lobby is ginormous (apparently it covers 2,800 square metres and is five storeys high) and is very flash. There was no queue at check-in, and the staff were very efficient.
Guest rooms
We stayed in two interconnecting rooms: a Twin Deluxe for our kids and a King Deluxe for me and my husband.
Our rooms were numbers 2240 and 2242. It was dark when we arrived, but I saw that the rooms looked out onto a leafy outdoor pool area. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, and had Thai art on the walls. They each had a fridge, tea and coffee-making things, a TV, a safe, fair-trade toiletries, white towels, air conditioning, and a range of different pillows. There was a large window between the bathroom and bedroom, with a privacy blind. I made a short video to show you what our room was like:
There was a controller next to the bed for the air conditioning and the lights. There was wifi in the rooms, but it kept dropping out and was quite slow. Our luggage was delivered just after we arrived at our rooms.
Dining
The hotel has eight restaurants and bars to choose from, including Japanese, Chinese and a sports bar. We opted for the traditional Thai menu at Sala Thai for dinner, as it was our last night in Thailand. I chose stir-fried noodles with vegetables, and my husband and kids all had Thai curry. The food was good, and It cost around 2,000 TBH (£47) for the four of us. By the time we’d finished eating it was 10pm and we were all pretty tired from our journey, so we went back to our rooms and went to bed. Despite the fact that the hotel is at the airport, I didn’t hear any plane noise while we were there – the building must have excellent soundproofing.
Facilities
Next morning my husband and I went for a stroll around the hotel before breakfast. I was very impressed by the relaxing outdoor spaces on the hotel’s second floor, where our rooms were. There’s a pleasant enclosed outdoor pool area which is surrounded by leafy plants and trees.
In a separate part of the hotel there’s a sheltered Thai garden. Inside there’s a large fitness centre and also a spa.
Breakfast
We met the kids for a quick breakfast on the ground floor in the same restaurant where we’d had dinner the previous evening. The buffet breakfast was included in the room rate. There was a wide range of options to choose from, and the food was of a high quality. I had fresh melon, apple juice, coffee and muesli. Our son had a full English breakfast and pastries. My husband and daughter had toast and fruit.
After breakfast we checked out and then walked across from the hotel to the airport via an air-conditioned covered walkway, pulling our suitcases behind us. It took just five minutes to reach the terminal.
Verdict
The Novotel offered exactly what we needed for an overnight stay at the airport, and it was great just to be able to walk to the check-in desk in the morning. The hotel’s in an ideal location, the rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the service was excellent. I wish that we’d had time to try out the pool and the spa. The level of service and range of facilities offered here make it feel like much more than an airport hotel.
My husband says: ‘It’s a very convenient hotel with great amenities.’
Our daughter (20) says: ‘It was good that we stayed at the airport and didn’t have to get a train or a taxi. The room was nice.’
Our son (15) says: ‘I liked the curry at dinner and the room was good.’

This must be the ultimate in relaxing pauses during a trip. So cool that you didn’t even have to go properly outdoors to get to the airport!
