If you’re planning a trip to Croatia and want to add a touch of neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, a day trip to Mostar and Medjugorje could be just what you need. This tour offers a balanced mix of historical sights, spiritual significance, and local flavors — all within a manageable 10-hour window.
While we haven’t done it ourselves, the experience seems popular among travelers, and the consistent 4.5-star rating from numerous reviews tells its own story.
What we really like about this tour is how it combines cultural exploration with relaxed free time. You’re not just rushing through sights; instead, you’ll get to walk around Mostar’s charming old bazaar and see the famous Turkish bridge, then enjoy some quiet moments at Medjugorje — a site that draws pilgrims from all over. Plus, the inclusion of wine tasting adds a delightful local touch.
Great trip, really enjoyed it. 100% recommended. We needed to change to following day and the company providing the tour were so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
We had a great time on our tour to Mostar. Our driver, Ivan, and tour guide, Adriana, were both wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the day enjoyable. The downside was that the tour didn’t include the wine tasting or museum visit that was listed in the description. While we still had a nice experience, it was a bit misleading and disappointing not to receive everything that was advertised.
Comfortable drive. Would be valuable to have a driver that would explain possible a few key places we went through. Also the girl that delivered the guided tour of Mostar provided her version of history, namely how great Tito was and everyone mourned his passing and the break up of Yugoslavia. This may be her interpretation but is not an accurate representation. I am a Croatian and what she said about all people being happy with Yugoslavia, freedom of religious practice, good economy etc was totally incorrect.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the tour involves some driving, and the long transfers might feel a little taxing if you’re not used to hours in a coach.
This tour is best suited for adventurous travelers who enjoy history, beautiful scenery, and a bit of spiritual reflection. It’s also a good fit for those comfortable with a group setting, as the tour generally involves a small but lively group of up to 20 people. If you’re after a full and balanced overview of this border region, this experience could be a worthwhile addition to your Croatia itinerary.

An Honest Look at the Tour Experience
This tour offers a pretty practical way to see some of the highlights of Bosnia and Herzegovina without the hassle of planning your own trip. For around $90 (which includes transportation, an informed guide, and entry to the Authentic Ancient House Museum), you’re getting a lot of value, especially if you’re interested in history, culture, or just looking for a change of scenery outside Croatia.
We loved the way the tour smoothly transitions from the Croatian coast to the Bosnian border, with the coach feeling comfortable and air-conditioned — a real plus on a summer day. The group size maxes out at 20, which is small enough to feel intimate but large enough for a lively atmosphere.
A great day out to Mostar where you are greeted by a guide and gives you a run down of Mostar and its history, finished of with a wine tasting. Our tour guide Ana was excellent at explaining and very accommodating explaining everything and where to shop and not to shop. Then onwards to Međugorje a religious site where the apparition of Mary appeared in 1981.
Mostar almost broke my heart. Quaint little town that experienced great suffering during the 90’s civil war…too fresh to forget…It was rebuilt beautifully like a Marrakesh bazar. Megjugorje was spiritually uplifting. The climb up apparition hill is difficult—a metaphore for life…I say, “Go test your faith & climb.” You will not forget your adventure.
Mostar was an absolute highlight. Although the tour there was on the shorter side, it was very informative and enjoyable. There was a good deal of free time in Mostar to enjoy all of the shops and restaurants that were there, as well as the scenery. The second portion of this tour is geared for those who very much want to experience Medjugorje. There is no tour there.(this is clearly indicated in the description of the tour). You are able to either stay in the town for the hour and a half that you are there and visit the church and the limited shops and restaurants, or you can go up to the religious hill and experience the hike. The hike itself is quite intense and up very rocky terrain. It…
Plus, the fact that pickup and drop-off are included in Split and Trogir makes things much easier — no need to worry about complicated logistics.

The Itinerary Breakdown: What to Expect

Stop 1: Departure from Split/Trogir
The day kicks off with a pre-arranged pickup from your hotel or meeting point, which is a big convenience. The drive to Bosnia and Herzegovina takes about two hours, depending on traffic — and it’s worth noting that the journey isn’t just transportation but also an opportunity to get a brief overview from your guide about the history and significance of the region.
Stop 2: Mostar — The Heart of Herzegovina
Mostar is the centerpiece of the tour. It’s a town that’s been pieced back together after the devastation of the 1990s war, and the results are impressive.
How often do you get to stroll through a place that’s been carefully restored, with vibrant bazaars and picturesque workshops lining cobblestone streets? The Old Bazaar here provides a lively backdrop to learn about local crafts and perhaps pick up some souvenirs.
Ena was wonderful, engaging and very knowledgeable, we enjoyed our time with her. The wine was very good also
Most star is a must see, but is a two hour plus car ride. The agenda to see more star and then on to see the church and maybe the waterfall is not ideal. They should have allowed more time in Mostar and less time at the church. Ena was a great tour guide.
One important thing to know: the tour crosses the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is outside the EU and Schengen zone. Check if you can go across with an ID or make sure you bring your passport. Unfortunately, some people on our bus were turned away at the border because they only had ID cards. That said, the driver handled the situation well, and make sure that the rest of us can carry on. The tour itself was lovely. In Mostar, we were joined by a local guide for the first hour. He was fantastic—informative, personable, and he shared heartfelt stories about growing up in Mostar, which added a deeply personal touch to the experience. I personally would have preferred more time in…
The star of the show is the Old Bridge, a stunning Ottoman-era structure that has been rebuilt with care and UNESCO support. You’ll get a close look at the bridge, which is much more than just a photo op — it’s a symbol of resilience.
Many reviews love the guide’s detailed explanations, with one traveler noting, “Our guide Ana was excellent at explaining and very accommodating,” which can really enhance your understanding of the area.
Stop 3: Free Time in Mostar
After the guided introductions, you’ll have around three hours of free time. This is your chance to explore at your own pace — whether that’s wandering through the old town, sampling Bosnian specialties, or just relaxing over a coffee with a view. The reviews highlight how this free time is well-utilized; some mention enjoying the shops and taking in the lively atmosphere.

Stop 4: Medjugorje — A Spiritual Destination
The second major stop is Medjugorje, the pilgrimage site where apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been reported since 1981. Whether you’re religious or not, the site is undeniably peaceful. You might find the rocky terrain and the church itself quite inspiring, especially if you’re interested in spiritual travel.
Confortable, complete The driver and the guide were great The weather today does not allow to do the hill …
We ended up being the only travelers on this date. Instead of cancelling, the tour guide (Ivan) picked us up in Split and drove us to both Mostar and Međugorje for this day trip. Everything was superb (except for the rain), but cannot say enough for Ivan and the tour company. Five-star rating!! Gary & Bonnie Germany
Antonio was an excellent driver and conversationalist. He was very informative during our drive and really just a pleasure to be with all day.
One reviewer pointed out that the climb up Apparition Hill can be challenging, especially for older travelers, but it’s also seen as a meaningful experience if you’re up for it. The tour only allocates about two hours here, which some found a little rushed, especially at the church — an important prayer space for many visitors.
Additional Highlights
The tour includes entry to the Authentic Ancient House Museum, giving a glimpse into local life and architecture. The wine tasting at the end, although a bit limited (some reviews mention only one wine being offered), still adds a lovely touch of local flavor. One traveler shared, “The wine was very good also,” which suggests some were quite satisfied.
The Practicalities and What They Mean for You

Transportation & Comfort
Travel is by air-conditioned minivan or coach, which is essential for a full-day trip in the heat or cold. The drive to Bosnia and Herzegovina is approximately two hours, with some variation based on traffic. The group size maxing at 20 ensures you won’t feel lost in a crowd but still have enough company for conversations.
Duration & Timing
The full-day duration allows for a relaxed pace, but keep in mind that the long drives may be tiring, especially if the weather is less than ideal. The tour’s total time is about 10 hours, including pickups, drives, and sightseeing, so it’s a commitment but one that’s manageable if you’re eager to see both towns.
Mostar was a wonderful surprise as was Trogir.Driver was a very good host and went to great lengths to show us the best views of the beautiful countries of Croatia and Bosnia. An excellent tour. I can highly recommend.
The tour is a great taste of Bosnia, our driver Antonio is great to chat with, and very friendly. I had a wonderful day trip, highly recommended.
The whole trip was wonderful. Our driver and our guide were exceptional. Interesting trip and happy to recommend it.
Cost & Value
At about $89.71 per person, this tour offers good value considering all logistics, guided commentary, and entry fees. While the wine tasting might be a bit modest for some — only one wine offered — the overall experience of sightseeing and learning feels worth the price.

- Bring your passport, as crossing into Bosnia and Herzegovina requires it.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes, especially if you plan to climb Apparition Hill or explore the bazaars.
- Dress appropriately for religious or spiritual sites — modest attire is advised.
- If you’re prone to feeling car-sick, consider taking some medication, as there’s a fair amount of driving.

One traveler shared, “Ena was wonderful, engaging, and very knowledgeable,” while another commended driver Antonio for his helpfulness and good conversation. These personal touches seem to make a difference, turning what could be a simple bus ride into a more engaging experience.
Others mention the importance of free time at Mostar, with one noting, “Mostar was an absolute highlight,” and appreciating the chance to explore independently. Conversely, some reviews point out that the time in Medjugorje can feel rushed, especially at the church and Apparition Hill, so it’s worth considering if you prefer more leisurely visits.
