There’s something undeniably appealing about combining a taste of Italy’s stunning lakes with a quick peek into Swiss elegance—all in one day. This day trip from Milan offers a well-rounded experience of two countries in just over ten hours, making it a popular choice for travelers who want a snapshot of Europe’s diverse charm without dedicating multiple days.

What we like most about this tour is how smoothly it’s organized—thanks to a guide and efficient transport—plus the chance to enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Como, which is a highlight. The stops in Bellagio and Lugano offer a delightful mix of lakeside beauty, local culture, and shopping.

However, it’s worth noting that this is a packed itinerary, so if your aim is to relax and linger, it might feel a bit rushed.

This trip was amazing!!! Amate was our tour guide and Claudio was our driver. Both were amazing! Amate is English speaking. He was upbeat and fun! Claudio knows how to drive a bus better than I drive a car on the narrow streets. Our tour started at 8a. We took our first stop for bathroom break heading to Lake Cuomo around 840a. (No bathroom on bus). Bus was clean and comfortable. We then made it to Lake Cuomo and took a boat ride around capturing beautiful views. Then went to Bellagio and spent a little over 2 hours there and had absolutely delicious lunch at La Dolce Vida (had the octopus meal and lake fish meal). We then went to Lugano for about another 2 hours. This trip was well worth i…

This was really well run logistically, everything was organized and left on time. We saw 2 towns in 2 countries in addition to a boat ride on lake Como plus free time in each of the towns. While we covered allot of ground, nothing felt rushed and there were enough stops throughout to remain comfortable. MarieErica (aka: Marika) was an amazing guide! She is a local Milanese and shared so much about the history of the city and Italy in general. She pointed out things as we drive by and explained what we were looking at, as well as hidden gems in each of the places. She has a great sense of humor that made the trip more fun. Guiseppe was our driver and did an amazing job navigating the roads. H…

This experience suits those who have limited time but want a rich, varied day of sightseeing. It’s also a good fit if you’re interested in seeing both the Italian and Swiss lakesides, trying Swiss chocolates, or snapping photos of celebrity villas. Keep in mind, it’s a long day on the road, so a decent level of physical fitness and comfort with group travel are recommended.

The Journey Begins in Milan

Your day kicks off from a central meeting point in Milan. The air-conditioned coach makes the transition across Italy’s border into Switzerland, offering glimpses of scenic landscapes along the way. Having a guide on board is a real bonus—they share stories, point out interesting sights, and help make the long drive feel like part of the adventure rather than just transportation.

While the trip from Milan to Lake Como takes around an hour, you’ll start to feel the anticipation grow as you approach the lakeside. It’s a comfortable start that sets the tone for the day ahead.

Lake Como: The Star of the Show

Once at Lake Como, the best way to experience its charm is on a 45-minute private boat cruise. We loved how this part of the tour provides a laid-back way to take in the views. You’ll glide past some of the lakeside villas—many famed for hosting celebrities and movie sets, including James Bond and Star Wars locations.

It was a long day but worth it. The beauty of Lake Como and Bellagio exceeded my expectations. It was easy to cross over to Lugano, Switzerland which was a bonas. Two beautiful countries for the price of one!

Great guide and bus driver, Giuseppe. Definitely Recommend! Amazing views, leisurely pace, amazing how we got through the tightest of turns BY NECESSITY!! Fun:)!

Perfect tour to cover Lake como, Bellagio and Lugano in a day. Our Guide Amato was both informative and funny, alongside excellent driver Oscar. Highly recommend!

The boat ride isn’t just a cruise; it’s an opportunity to snap photos of grandiose homes and lush gardens while your guide shares tidbits about the properties.

For example, a quote from a reviewer sums up this part perfectly: “The boat ride was great and Bellagio a fantastic stop.” The enclosed nature of the boat might make picture-taking tricky at times, especially in less sunny weather, but it’s still a memorable highlight.

Bellagio: The ‘Pearl of Lake Como’

After the cruise, you’ll have some free time in Bellagio, often called “the pearl of Lake Como.” This charming town is famous for its cobblestone streets, lovely views, and boutique shops. It’s the perfect place to wander, browse local shops, or enjoy a quick coffee and gelato.

One review notes, “It was a very well-choreographed trip, with enough time in Bellagio to explore or relax.” The balance of time here seems well judged—enough to enjoy the town without feeling pressed, though some might want more if they love to linger.

Loved this tour! Our guide Amato was very clear with the itinerary and what to do in the towns. Had enough time everywhere. Delicious food in Lake Como. Comfortable bus. Stunning scenery!

Great tour! I am a female who was traveling alone. Easy meeting place with very good direction on where to meet. Great communication prior to tour. Sara was very informative and made the tour very interesting.

Great tour, highly recommended. Marina was great guide and her local knowledge really bought th tour alive for us.

Crossing into Switzerland: Lugano

Next up is Lugano, the Swiss town that has long been a magnet for celebrities and luxury lovers. You’ll have a couple of hours to explore independently. Whether you choose to stroll by the lake, shop for Swiss chocolates, or visit the Santa Maria degli Angioli church—which houses a famous Renaissance fresco—there’s plenty to do.

One traveler sums up the experience: “Lugano is a playground for luxury shopping and fine arts, with scenic views and a lively city center.” You can also see Bernardino Luini’s “Passion and Crucifixion” in the church, which adds a touch of culture to the trip.

The Return and Reflection

As the day winds down, you’ll return to Milan by coach, often in the late afternoon. The reviews highlight that the entire process is smooth, with many travelers remarking on how much they’ve packed into one day.

What’s Included — and What’s Not

The tour includes transport by air-conditioned coach, a professional English-speaking guide, and headsets so everyone can hear the commentary clearly. The boat cruise on Lake Como is a major perk, offering a relaxing perspective on the lake’s beauty.

If you’re looking for a day trip to explore some of the best parts of Italy & a sneak peak in to Switzerland- this is perfect! We had the best day. The guide was fantastic. He explained everything well and clearly + we had plenty of free time to explore and enjoy the surroundings of Lake Como. This is highly recommended. We had 2 kids under 12 + 2 adults and a grandmother 70 years old. We all found it one of the best trips we’ve been on. Don’t miss out on this when you’re in Milan… book it!
Tsarita A
Our tour guide is the best! Even she have accent but everyone can understood her. She not only care about everyone but ahe is also nice and knowledgeable. She knows what she is doin.

The tour was full value for your money and more. Our guide, Amado, was so kind, informational, and organized. What could have been an overwhelming experience was made so smooth and beautiful by Amado and our driver, Claudio. It was stress-free and very enjoyable. Our guide, also, gave great recommendations!

However, things like food and drinks are not included, so you might want to bring snacks or plan to buy lunch during your free time. Also, hotel pickup isn’t part of the package, so you’ll need to meet at the designated spot in Milan.

The Verdict on Value

At $117.54 per person, this tour offers a solid value considering all that’s packed into the day. The reviews frequently mention how well-organized it is and how much scenery and sightseeing they managed to cover. Many call it a “must-do” for visitors with limited time.

That said, it’s a full day—and some travelers noted that the narrow roads from Como to Switzerland can be a bit tense for the driver, though they handle it skillfully. The long hours may not suit everyone, especially those who crave a more relaxed pace.

This was fantastic! We had a private driver and guide who was friendly and made the tour worth it. Saw the wonderful lake regions Como, bellagio and had time for lunch Ang shopping. Lugano was beautiful as well. Would highly recommend

However, if you prefer slow mornings or detailed explorations of each location, or if you’re traveling with very young children or those who need ample rest, this might feel a bit rushed.
