5.0(405 reviews)From $834.79 per group (up to 7)

This private tour of Siena, San Gimignano, and Chianti from Florence sounds like a pretty fantastic way to soak up some of Tuscany’s best. While we haven’t done it ourselves, the reviews and details suggest it’s a solid choice if you’re after a personal, hassle-free way to explore this legendary region.

What really catches our eye are the private driver and guide, ensuring you get tailored insights and a relaxed pace, and the wine tasting at a local vineyard—a real highlight for many.

One thing to consider is the price point—around $800 for up to 7 people—which on the surface might seem steep, but includes all transport and some personalized touches. The other aspect to bear in mind is that if you opt for the winery lunch, you’ll spend less time in the towns themselves.

Tour was perfect from beginning to end. Loved being able to customize on the spot. Do not skip lunch, we did Poggio Amorelli and loved every minute of it!

Simone is hands down the best tour guide. Super friendly and warm and a wonderful storyteller! He went out of his way to bring us to the best spots for panoramic views, gave us great recommendations for dining in Florence and Rome. The tour that Simone put together is definitely one of the highlights of our very first visit to Italy. Thank you!

Massimo was an excellent driver and very kind. The scenery was beautiful and crowds were minimal. Only docking this experience 1 star because the day felt very long, and there wasn't much to do besides walk around with no guide. The winery was not worth the $165 if you're not a red wine drinker.

So, this tour is best suited for those who want an intimate experience with plenty of flexibility and are genuinely interested in visiting iconic spots without the crowds.

All in all, this experience appeals most to travelers who value comfort, expert insights, and a deep dive into Tuscan culture—whether you’re a first-timer or returning to Italy and wanting a refined snapshot of Tuscany’s highlights. Now, let’s explore what you can expect along this scenic route.

Why This Tour Might Be the Right Fit

Private Tour in Siena, San Gimignano and Chianti Day Trip from Florence - Why This Tour Might Be the Right Fit

If you’re after a relaxing, guided day that combines town sightseeing with wine tasting, this trip hits the mark. It’s especially appealing if you prefer not to navigate public transport or large tour groups. With a maximum of seven travelers, it promises intimacy and flexibility. Plus, with excellent reviews praising guides and stunning scenery, it seems to deliver on its promises.

However, keep in mind that certain stops, like a winery lunch, will cut into your time in Siena and San Gimignano, so if your main goal is to spend as long as possible wandering these towns, you might want to consider how you balance the options.

The personal touch from the tour was second to none. Our guide Marco was fun, informative, prompt and provided us with a one of a kind luncheon hosted by a working winery family. Amazing!

This was an incredible experience getting outside of the city and going to the historic towns of Siena, San G, and Chianti. Our private tour guide, Simone has been guiding for 23 years, and was raised in Florence. His knowledge, and hospitality were 5 star! We love to book the private tours as we not only get to learn history, see beautiful towns and cities, but create wonderful memories. We ended up at a vineyard in Chianti and the day turned out perfect! Highly recommend Simone. Genuinely great person and passionate about sharing his knowledge and history of the area.

The tour with Samuele was wonderful and he is so knowledgeable about the Florence and Tuscany areas. He gave us a lot of information and facts about the areas we did not know about. It was a fantastic end to a long trip to Greece and other parts of Italy and it was nice to have the private tour with him in a very comfortable van.. He is a great driver too!

Also, at around 8 hours, it’s a full day, which is great for those who want to pack in a lot but might be tiring for some travelers, especially with young children or those less mobile.

Pick-Up and Departure

Your day begins with hotel pickup anywhere in downtown Florence—a nice convenience that means no complicated logistics to start your adventure. The luxury minivan with onboard Wi-Fi (upon request) makes the journey comfortable and informative from the get-go. Your driver, all experts in Tuscany, will share tidbits and stories that bring the landscape and towns alive.

Siena: A Medieval Marvel

The first stop is Siena, renowned for its preserved medieval architecture. Expect to spend around two hours here, enough to get a taste of its historic charm. The highlight is definitely the Piazza del Campo—a shell-shaped square that’s famous for the Palio horserace, a centuries-old tradition. The Siena Cathedral is another must-see; its intricate facade and stunning interior are worth a quick visit.

As one reviewer put it, “Many local shops fill the historic streets of Siena that will allow you to taste or buy local food or gifts,” so bring some cash or cards to enjoy the local market vibe. The town’s architecture and atmosphere provide a perfect backdrop for photos and wandering.

Massimo was absolutely fantastic he went out of his way to shoe us part of Florence that was not included. He never rushed us, we took our time to see San Gimignanomi and Sienna and the wine tour. My husband and I had an amazing experience with our driver, Marco. He was very flexible and knowledgeable about the history of the area. He supplied us with options and tailored our day around what we wanted to do and see. I highly recommend the lunch in the vineyard with the wine tasting! We had a great day!

What a great day! Visiting Siena, driving through the beautiful Tuscan countryside, and eating at a winery were the perfect activities after a few days in Florence.

Castellina in Chianti: The Heart of Tuscany’s Wine Country

Next, the tour takes you into the Chianti wine region, driving along the famous Chianti Wine Road. This drive alone offers stunning scenery—rolling hills, vineyards, and cypress-lined roads that scream Tuscany. Here, you have the option to visit a local winery or farm for a tasting and perhaps a light lunch.

Many reviews mention the wine tasting experience at Casa Emma, where you can sample excellent wines, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil.

Choosing this option will mean less time in Siena and San Gimignano, but you might find the experience at the vineyard more memorable if you’re keen on wine. One reviewer raved about the “fantastic wine and food” at the winery, noting it as a highlight of their trip.

San Gimignano: A Towering Medieval Village

The last stop is San Gimignano, often called the “Medieval Manhattan” for its striking skyline of medieval towers. Here, you’re given about two hours to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site, walk its narrow streets, and marvel at the medieval architecture. The towers date back to the 1300s, making it a real-time capsule of medieval life.

Marco was an amazing driver and so knowable. We had a great time. He took us to a cute winery for a tasting lunch and to two smaller walled cities and sienna.
Paul S
We stopped at Montaregioni, Sienna, a beautiful winery in the Tuscan countryside for lunch and wine tasting and finished at San Gimignano. It was a perfect day and a perfect pace. Carlo was very knowledgeable and amenable to all our wishes. Great day.
Daniel K
The driver, Samuela, was very knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, helpful, and took us to an excellent winery tour and lunch. However, Samuela is not a tour guide and could not accompany us and guide us through the sites. We expected a tour guide, not a self-guided tour. Therefore, I think a refund is in order as this tour is completely misrepresented.

One traveler captured the essence: “San Gimignano a pearl of medieval architecture famous for its houses towers,” which really helps visualize the place. The town also offers plenty of shops for local crafts and souvenirs.

Return to Florence

After your final stop, you’ll head back to Florence, arriving roughly around 5-6 pm, depending on traffic. The journey back offers a chance to relax and reflect on the day’s highlights.

What’s Included and What to Expect

This tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a luxury private vehicle, bottled water, and on-demand Wi-Fi—all designed to make your day smooth and enjoyable. Your English-speaking driver is more than just a chauffeur; many reviews praise their knowledge, helpful tips, and friendly demeanor.

The cost of approximately $801 per group (up to 7 people) reflects the personalized nature of the experience. Considering the private transportation and guide, it’s quite reasonable, especially when compared to group tours that might be less flexible or intimate.

David was great- good insights on the town and very friendly! We loved the lunch at family vineyard in Chianti. Amazing. Perfect way to explore the countryside of San Gimignano and Siena. Highly recommend
Kevin M
Our driver Marco was fantastic. He was engaging and knowledgeable, having been born and raised in Siena. The vineyard we stopped at for lunch was a great family run winery. We got to meet the owner and had a knowledgeable guide give us a tour there. The view during lunch of the hills and valley around the vineyard was stunning. Marco offered an option to replace our visit to San Gimignano with stops at two small villages with a scenic drive through the mountains. We found this a nice chill alternative and authentic Italian experience after walking among so many tourists in Siena and Florence. We would do this tour again in a heartbeat.
James B
This was our favorite highlight of the trip. We have traveled quite a lot and can hands down say Marco is the best guide anyone could have. We learned a lot of interesting facts about his country. The winery lunch and visit was so relaxing and enjoyable. Wonderful day all the way around

Plus, the reviews suggest that many guests find the experience worth every penny, especially with guides like Marco or Sam who go above and beyond sharing stories and recommendations.

Optional Winery Lunch

If you opt for the lunch and wine tasting at a local winery, you’ll spend around 50-70 euros per adult, but this means less time in Siena and San Gimignano. Reviews indicate that the wine tasting and food at Casa Emma are excellent, making it worth considering if you love wine and local produce.

Flexibility and Customization

Since this is a private tour, your guide can tailor the experience—whether you want more time in one town or additional stops. Many reviews mention guides sharing interesting facts and personal tips, which really enhances the experience.

Honest Opinions and Noteworthy Downsides
